I came to this courtesy of a COI spam mess from the creator and his socks (that problem is obviously not there in this one), but I was left wondering why this should be separate from Shakti. Can you take a look please? cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 17:23, 28 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Spaceman, Adi Parashakti or Adi Shakti or Mahadevi denotes the Supreme Goddess in Shaktism. Though Devi or Shakti may also denote the Supreme Godddess, they are used as common nouns also. Shakti is power; it may refer to various shaktis (female powers) of gods e.g. Matrikas (The matrika Maheshwari as shakti of Shiva) or consorts e.g. Parvati (though also given the epithet Maheshwari; she is different from the matrika) as shakti of Shiva; similarly Varahi v/s Bhudevi as shakti of Varaha. Shakti also denotes kundalini-shakti or ichha-shakti etc.Redtigerxyz Talk 12:45, 1 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, there seems to be a lot of overlap within the three articles leading to confusion for the reader -- Shakti (while I understand your point on the common noun, it seems more focused on the proper), Adi Parashakti, and Mahadevi. Anyways, I'll leave it be for subject matter experts to handle. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 03:09, 2 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Satyanarayan puja[edit]

Hello Red Tiger, I would appreciate it if you can have look at this article Satyanarayan Puja. I recently added sourced information that said that in Bengal Satya Narayan and Satya Pir puja were related. Another editor reverted that edit citing that the reference I had used was from a book published 100 years ago. Let me know you thoughts on the matter. Citations question for Kali article[edit]

Hi Redtigerxyz, I'm looking at overhauling the citations for the Kali article and wondering what format to use. It's been many years since I brought an article to GA status, and I'm wondering what is the best approach here to save the GA status for the article. I know many ways are acceptable. Would you recommend Harvard, or another? Ease of use is a consideration. Is there a tool that will create a Harvard formatted reference? Is there a newer approach that I'm not aware of? thanks, First Light (talk) 09:51, 14 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

First Light; Generally in GAs, I use in the format "Apte (2004),? p. 720" in plain text (without templates). However, in the article I am working on currently - Chhinnamasta, I used {{harvtxt}}, but for FA hopes. I do not know of a tool for easy referencing.--Redtigerxyz Talk 15:29, 14 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks - I'm thinking of going with Harvard, as I've used that before. And thanks for the improvements to the article, including digging up that long-lost verifiable (and very good) material in the etymology section. First Light (talk) 16:06, 14 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Aren't they essentially one and the same? Vensatry (talk) 06:29, 19 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Vensatry, Yes. They are the same. However I think two articles are needed: 1. about the deity Barbarika - integrate everything about Khatushyamji's local legend here 2. about his chief temple at Khatu/Khatushayamji; part of this info is available in Khatushyamji. --Redtigerxyz Talk 08:49, 19 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The Barbarika tale comes from a folklore; there's no mention about him in the unabridged version of the epic. Given that Khatushyamji is a manifestation of him, can't we have both under one roof? Vensatry (talk) 09:10, 19 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Vensatry, Barbarika comes from Skanda Purana; while Khatushyamji tale, which is similar to the Purana in some aspects, is folklore. I suggest a model like Iravan; where most of the current Khatushyamji is merged in Barbarika; however an article about Khatushyamji's chief temple (which is also covered in the current Khatushyamji article) needs to be retained.--Redtigerxyz Talk 09:22, 19 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
That'll do! Vensatry (talk) 09:30, 19 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

In the movie Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, Robin Williams gave the voice for Garuda artifact.

The subject looks interesting. Can you help to take Garuda to GA and then FA level? --Rainbow Archer (talk) 07:19, 19 July 2016 (UTC

Rainbow Archer, I can help; but can not take the lead in this.--Redtigerxyz Talk 08:52, 19 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Glad to see you are active again. I found this article created by a newcomer and thought of expanding it. I am seeing some book references; like the ref 1 & 2 used in article, that mention Kalanemi as a minor character in some war between suras and asuras. He was then killed by Vishnu. But I can't figure out what war this was? Was it the one after the Sagarmanthan and before the Mohini avatar? They mention that Indra killed Bali in this war and Bali was later resurrected by Shuracharya.
Other books also say that Kalanemi later reincarnated as Kamsa, Krishn'a uncle and again got slayed by a Vishnu-avatar.
I have added info about a certan Kalanemi from Ramayana. But am not sure if they are linked or what. Can you sort out the article? Or at least guide me? Pinging @Nvvchar: as well. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 05:11, 20 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Oops. Thanks Kailash29792. However, User:Vensatry, I generally do not oppose or support at FLC due to lack of expertise; I give minor comments or do image reviews. This FLC does not need that. Always available to review an article. --Redtigerxyz Talk 15:14, 9 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Redtiger. I was happy to make a few proofing changes to Chhinnamasta, but for a variety of reasons I'm not up to doing a complete review. I'm happy, though, that you are still going strong. If am not mistaken, Vrushali finds little mention in original Mahabharata as quite a minor character. Correct me if am wrong and if not then isn't this article undue probably just coming from other fictional adaptations like tv shows and novels and such? §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 08:40, 18 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) I don't think the Mahabharata mentions the names of any of Karna's wives; however, she finds a mention in Shivaji Sawant's Mrityunjay, which is a fan fiction on Karna. Vensatry (talk) 10:47, 18 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Dharmadhyaksha and Vensatry, MBh does not name Karna's wives; though his sons are named. Stri Parva does record her sorrow, she is unnamed. I suggest moving Vrushali to Wife of Karna or Wives of Karna and include various names given to her/them like Vrushali, Supriya, Urvi (Karna's Wife Novel). What do you suggest? --Redtigerxyz Talk 16:16, 18 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) Redtigerxyz, I think a merger (with Karna) would be more than enough. Apart from the fact that he had more than one wife, there's nothing that we can conclude. Vensatry (talk) 16:24, 18 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 02:24, 21 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Editor of the Week seeking nominations (and a new facilitator)[edit]

The Editor of the Week initiative has been recognizing editors since 2013 for their hard work and dedication. Editing Wikipedia can be disheartening and tedious at times; the weekly Editor of the Week award lets its recipients know that their positive behaviour and collaborative spirit is appreciated. The response from the honorees has been enthusiastic and thankful.

The list of nominees is running short, and so new nominations are needed for consideration. Have you come across someone in your editing circle who deserves a pat on the back for improving article prose regularly, making it easier to understand? Or perhaps someone has stepped in to mediate a contentious dispute, and did an excellent job. Do you know someone who hasn't received many accolades and is deserving of greater renown? Is there an editor who does lots of little tasks well, such as cleaning up citations?

Please help us thank editors who display sustained patterns of excellence, working tirelessly in the background out of the spotlight, by submitting your nomination for Editor of the Week today!

In addition, the WikiProject is seeking a new facilitator/coordinator to handle the logistics of the award. Please contact L235 if you are interested in helping with the logistics of running the award in any capacity. Remove your name from here to unsubscribe from further EotW-related messages. Thank you. ShotgunMavericks ❯❯❯   🕊✍🏻

Thikse Monastery[edit]

Hi Redtigerxyz. I was cleaning up some spam and tourism advertising when I came across this edit of yours. Supporting Indian Wikipedia Program resource distribution[edit]

In 2017 - 2018, the Wikimedia Foundation and Google working in close coordination with the Centre for Internet and Society (CIS), Wikimedia India chapter (WMIN) and user groups will pilot a program encouraging Wikipedia communities to create locally relevant and high-quality content in Indian languages. Peer review newsletter #1[edit]

Introduction[edit]

Hello to all! I do not intend to write a regular peer review newsletter but there does occasionally come a time when those interested in contributing to peer review should be contacted, and now is one. I've mailed this out to everyone on the peer review volunteers list, and some editors that have contributed to past discussions. Apologies if I've left you off or contacted you and you didn't want it. Next time there is a newsletter / mass message it will be opt in (here), I'll talk about this below - but first:

  • THANK YOU! I want to thank you for your contributions and for volunteering on the list to help out at peer review. Thank you!
  • Peer review is useful! It's good to have an active peer review process. This is often the way that we help new or developing editors understand our ways, and improve the quality of their editing - so it fills an important and necessary gap between the teahouse (kindly introduction to our Wikiways) and GA and FA reviews (specific standards uphelp according to a set of quality criteria). And we should try and improve this process where possible (automate, simplify) so it can be used and maintained easily.

Updates[edit]

It can get quite lonely tinkering with peer review...
With a bit of effort we can renovate the place to look like this!

Update #1: the peer review volunteers list is changing[edit]

The list is here in case you've forgotten: WP:PRV. Kadane has kindly offered to create a bot that will ping editors on the volunteers list with unanswered reviews in their chosen subject areas every so often. You can choose the time interval by changing the "contact" parameter. Options are "never", "monthly", "quarterly", "halfyearly", and "annually". For example:

  • {{PRV|JohnSmith|History of engineering|contact=monthly}} - if placed in the "History" section, JohnSmith will receive an automatic update every month about unanswered peer reviews relating to history.
  • {{PRV|JaneSmith|Mesopotamian geography, Norwegian fjords|contact=annually}} - if placed in the "Geography" section, JaneSmith will receive an automatic update every yearly about unanswered peer reviews in the geography area.

We can at this stage only use the broad peer review section titles to guide what reviews you'd like, but that's better than nothing! You can also set an interest in multiple separate subject areas that will be updated at different times.

Update #2: a (lean) WikiProject Peer review[edit]

I don't think we need a WikiProject with a giant bureaucracy nor all sorts of whiz-bang features. However over the last few years I've found there are times when it would have been useful to have a list of editors that would like to contribute to discussions about the peer review process (e.g. instructions, layout, automation, simplification etc.). Also, it can get kind of lonely on the talk page as I am (correct me if I'm wrong) the only regular contributor, with most editors moving on after 6 - 12 months.

So, I've decided to create "WikiProject Peer review". If you'd like to contribute to the WikiProject, or make yourself available for future newsletters or contact, please add yourself to the list of members.

Update #3: advertising[edit]

We plan to do some advertising of peer review, to let editors know about it and how to volunteer to help, at a couple of different venues (Signpost, Village pump, Teahouse etc.) - but have been waiting until we get this bot + WikiProject set up so we have a way to help interested editors make more enduring contributions. So consider yourself forewarned!

And... that's it!

I wish you all well on your Wikivoyages, Tom (LT) (talk) 00:31, 11 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Ramayana navbox[edit]

So the navbox should not contain any film version of the Ramayana? Would a separate navbox for film versions suffice? --Kailash29792 (talk) 18:47, 24 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Kailash29792, In modern versions, only Ramayan (1986 TV series) is considered a significant version that is referred to now and then by many scholars; significant to influence other works. The template also lists only the most important ancient versions; all not works inspired by the epic.--Redtigerxyz Talk 18:53, 24 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Editing the page of shurpnakha[edit]

I appreciate your edit for page of shurpnakha (Description and biography) An anonymous user was trying to spread false information about shurpnakha that after ravan vadh she escaped to land of arabia with help of creed guru shukracharya and got 10000 years life as a boon from him. centuries later she took tha name mahamada(chief female) and went for gender reassignment surgery to become mahamad. after that mahamad spread islam to destroy hindu religion, even he cited one video link from youtube which was totally false and baseless. some user tried to make correction on the page but this user reverted every edit and giving excuse that edit was done by islamic jihadi. I never got any reference for this baseless vandalism. today i complained through mail to wikipedia regarding this issue. your edit is really appreciated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Razzilkhan (talkcontribs) 17:13, 25 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Uchchhishta), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Thanks for adding Vijayadashami to Wikipedia:Selected anniversaries/October 18. However, there are a few problems. First, the article says that in 2019 it will be observed on 19 October, and a Google search gives results for both 18 ([1][2][3]) and 19 Oct. ([4][5][6]), so I am not sure which date it should be listed on. If you can figure it out, that would be very helpful. Thanks. howcheng {chat} 16:50, 16 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
