Plot[edit]

Bindiya and her younger sister, Payal live on a farm that their relatives plan to seize. After the death of their parents, the two sisters face many hurdles. Bindiya and Payal, the once loving sisters, clash due to their different ideologies. Bindiya is honest and hardworking, while Payal wants to be rich at any cost. As they grow up, the differences between them also grow.

Bindiya remains in her village while Payal is a college student. Payal is in a relationship with Krish, but Krish's father, Baldev, is looking to get Krish married to someone homely and traditional. Bindiya ends up saving Baldev's life, so Baldev decides that Bindiya will be his daughter-in-law. No one in the Shukla family is happy with the decision as they see Bindiya as illiterate and boorish. They have prejudice against her as she is from a village.

Krish, in anger, decides to cut off ties with his family and leaves the house to be with Payal. Payal, who is after Krish's money, breaks off the relationship so Krish will go back to his house. Krish and Bindiya's wedding is fixed. After much plotting, Payal succeeds in transferring some of Baldev's property to Krish's name. Since Krish has assets again, Payal plans to stop the wedding, but she fails. Krish and Bindiya get married. Krish is still in love with Payal, but he doesn't want to cheat Bindiya. Bindiya, unaware of anything, has already fallen in love with Krish.

Payal, devastated that her plan failed, is willing to do anything to break Krish and Bindiya's marriage. No one in the family is aware of Payal and Krish's past, which she takes advatange of to stay in the house as Bindiya's sister and her responsibility.

Eventually, Payal succeeds in becoming Krish's illegal wife. Most of the family prefers her over Bindiya, but Bindiya is not willing to back down without a fight. Thus begins the saga of Bindiya fighting for her right as a "suhaagan." After much turmoil, Krish gives divorce to Bindiya, but the juddge orders them to give their marriage a chance. Within the 6 months she has left, Bindiya has to bring Payal's true face infront of everyone.

Payal, on the other hand, plays vile tricks, such as sleeping with Krish and pretending to be pregnant to defeat Bindiya. After several evil shenanigans of Payal, Bindiya ends up exposing it in front of the whole family and Krish. Payal ends up leaving after seeing Krish's anger, but she finds a new strategy to come back to the Shukla family by pretending to commit suicide in front of Krish. Krish ends up forgiving Payal and accepting that her love for him is real. Later on, Krish insults Bindiya by telling her that she was doing all this to satisfy her carnal desire. In anger, Krish tires to force himself on Bindiya, which causes Bindiya to break their relationship and leave the house.

Bindiya goes back to her village and ends up meeting a businessman, Samay, who happens to be Krish's estranged cousin. Krish begins to feel jealous due to the growing closeness between Samay and Bindiya. Bindiya ends up coming back to the Shukla house with Samay and his mom, Shanti.

Shanti wants Bindiya as her daughter-in-law, and even Samay confesses his feelings for Bindiya; however, Bindiya rejects the proposal. Bindiya still holds feelings for Krish, but she has not forgiven Krish for his misbehavior towards her. After getting drunk at a party, Krish confesses his feelings towards Bindiya. Payal reveals how Samay was in chaoots with Baldev and Amma to bring Krish closer to Bindiya. Bindiya feels betrayed and refuses to believe Krish's feelings for her are real. Krish then gives Agni Pariksha by walking on burning coal to show his repentance. Bindiya finally decides to forgive Krish for his earlier behavior. She is more determined than ever to not only fight for her marriage, but also her love.

In a twist of events, Bindiya and Krish's divorce is to be finalized. Krish hesitates to sign the papers, but Bindiya goes ahead and signs it. Bindiya was egging Krish to confess his love, but in anger, Krish also signs the divorce papers. However, Bindiya and Samay team up to get Krish to confess by planning to get married. Shanti, who is hurt about being lied to, exposes the truth in front of the whole family. Payal uses this to her advantage to ruin Bindiya’s image in front of Krish.

However, Krish finally accepts his feelings for Bindiya and fills her hairline with vermillion. Payal asks Indu to back her up, but Indu says she will support her son in whatever decision he makes. Finally, Krish and Bindiya are reunited as a proper couple.
