Sakhigopal or Satyabadi is a town and Notified Area Council in Puri district in the Indian state of Odisha.

About[edit]

Sakhigopal is one of the pilgrimage centres in Odisha for the Sakhigopal Temple. The name Sakhigopal literally means Gopal (Srikrishna) being a witness.[1]

The alternate name for this place is Satyabadi as it was the name of this place before the establishment of Sakhigopal Temple.[2]

Earlier, Sakhigopal village was under Satyabadi Block which was spread over an area of 282.34 km2. It has 169 inhabited villages, 4 uninhabited villages.[3][better source needed]

On 13 March 2024, the Government of Odisha upgraded Sakhigopal village to be a NAC.[4]

Demographics[edit]

According to the 2011 Census, Satyabadi Community Block had a population of 1,96,136 with the male population being 99,599 (50.8%) while female population being 96,537 (49.2%). There are a total of 43,350 households. The population density is 695 people per km2.[3][better source needed]

Hindus form the majority of the population, while Muslims and Christians are a small minority. The population of Hindus is 1,93,921 (98.9%), Muslims is 1,974 (1%) and Christians is 51 (0.02%).[5][better source needed]

Sakhigopal is a part of Satyabadi Assembly Constituency. Current MLA from Satyabadi Assembly Constituency is Umakanta Samantaray of BJD, who won the seat in State elections in 2019.[11]

Satyabadi is a part of Puri Lok Sabha constituency.[12]
