WikiCup 2023 September newsletter
[edit]The fourth round of the competition has finished, with anyone scoring less than 673 points being eliminated. It was a high scoring round with all but one of the contestants who progressed to the final having achieved an FA during the round. The highest scorers were
Epicgenius, with 2173 points topping the scores, gained mainly from a featured article, 38 good articles and 9 DYKs. He was followed by
Sammi Brie, with 1575 points, gained mainly from a featured article, 28 good articles and 50 good article reviews. Close behind was
Thebiguglyalien, with 1535 points mainly gained from a featured article, 15 good articles, 26 good article reviews and lots of bonus points.
Between them during round 4, contestants achieved 12 featured articles, 3 featured lists, 3 featured pictures, 126 good articles, 46 DYK entries, 14 ITN entries, 67 featured article candidate reviews and 147 good article reviews. Congratulations to our eight finalists and all who participated! It was a generally high-scoring and productive round and I think we can expect a highly competitive finish to the competition.
Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them and within 24 hours of the end of the final. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. It would be helpful if this list could be cleared of any items no longer relevant. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.
I will be standing down as a judge after the end of the contest. I think the Cup encourages productive editors to improve their contributions to Wikipedia and I hope that someone else will step up to take over the running of the Cup. Sturmvogel 66 (talk), and Cwmhiraeth (talk)

Article review request
[edit]Hello, Could you please review this article? The season is still ongoing, and it would be best for readers to access it now. 51.175.244.58 (talk) 15:08, 7 May 2025 (UTC)
- Are you serious? What exactly are you trying to achieve with this provocative behavior? The articles fully meet the notability criteria. 51.175.244.58 (talk) 18:09, 7 May 2025 (UTC)
- There is literally just two lines of prose in each 'article'. You have asked me to review the article and I am giving my honest feedback. There is no prose summary of the season, which I would expect as a bare minimum. I have also declined many articles as they are just sourced to the club website, as well as containing the same two lines of prose at the top and nothing else. Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 18:11, 7 May 2025 (UTC)
- The article is still in its early stages and being worked on. Anyone is welcome to contribute. The articles you mentioned were improved over time to reach that level. 51.175.244.58 (talk) 18:16, 7 May 2025 (UTC)
- In that case, please add a bit of prose to the article and at least 2 independent sources and notify me again and I'll accept them. If the article still requires a lot of work, then it's unlikely to pass review. Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 18:18, 7 May 2025 (UTC)

[edit]Thanks for setting up the Afd, I meant to get round to that but kinda forgot about it! xD RossEvans19 (talk) 14:18, 13 May 2025 (UTC)
- RossEvans19 no worries at all! I did my own search and couldn't find anything either. Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 18:07, 13 May 2025 (UTC)

Bobe Cannon moved to draftspace
[edit]Thanks for your contributions to Bobe Cannon. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it has no sources. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.
Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit the draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. Destinyokhiria (talk) 14:23, 24 May 2025 (UTC)

[edit]Did you retrieve Diario de Noticias source from the deleted article or happen to retrieve it yourself randomly? ⋆。˚꒰ঌ Clara A. Djalim ໒꒱˚。⋆ 14:56, 27 May 2025 (UTC)
- I believe it was already in the article, if memory serves me. Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 16:48, 27 May 2025 (UTC)

A cup of tea for you!
[edit]![]() | For proper use of MFD, and to maintain alertness (already demonstrated). For sending drafts to MFD that should have been sent to MFD. (We have had too much stuff sent to MFD in the past few days that is a waste of volunteer review time.) Robert McClenon (talk) 03:39, 1 June 2025 (UTC) |
- Many thanks Robert McClenon - I always feel being alert in draft and user spaces then minimises the problems in article space, which is where it really matters. Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 09:23, 1 June 2025 (UTC)
Why old Wikipedia Reviewer frustrating New Wiki Writers.
[edit]Im new on Wikipedia,i have passion to include notable Nigerian on Wikipedia because there are alot of nigerians whom are notable and are yet to be included on Wikipedia, I thought that the article was rejected based on the name ,that is why I try him other names. I am not paid whatsoever to do this, but I am a pationate person and I would always try to finish anything that I started. I have done all the corrections and i followed all guidelines by Wikipedia. What is the point in the Wikipedia rules when no reviewer follows it thoroughly. You only reason for rejection is because I was formally rejected 💔 you didn't even looked at the article. Again I'm not paid to do this and all the sources being used are geniue and reliable and there are sources that are over a decade. I feel sad and this is a total discouragement for me to continue writing for Wikipedia. Aliu Salau (talk) 09:38, 1 June 2025 (UTC)
- This person has been confirmed as non-notable by multiple reviewers. You are not allowed to try to circumvent the system by submitting it again under a different name, that's completely unacceptable. There is nothing stopping you writing about someone else, since you say you are not being paid, please feel free to write about someone/something else. Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 09:40, 1 June 2025 (UTC)
- All over the world theres no single Fuji music lovers that do no konw Remi Aluko
- Spiderone, I looked at all Wikipedia rules and theres non that stops me from starting a new article with same topic if one is rejected, again why don't you look at my article professionally instead of acting based on your own will. Other reviewer rejected because there was not enough References and I added other sources before submit the new one. Aliu Salau (talk) 09:51, 1 June 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, it's a breach of the rules. See WP:GAMENAME. You are not allowed to submit the same draft under multiple names to game the system. Editors repeatedly do this may even face a block. Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 09:56, 1 June 2025 (UTC)
- The likes of Pasuma And Saheed Osupa ,Obesere are on Wikipedia, its just a total shock to me when i found out that Remi Aluko dont have an article written in his name.
- And pls im not being paid okay, i doubt if anyone would pay a new user like me.
- Infact I included alot of reliable sources which includes the saharareporters, and top news papers in Nigeria. I am a Nigerian so I'm so emotional about this. No one looks into the article. Aliu Salau (talk) 10:13, 1 June 2025 (UTC)

- Thank you for highlighting that to me. I know better now. Aliu Salau (talk) 09:58, 1 June 2025 (UTC)
- Many thanks. I would suggest editing other topics of interest and then come back to article creation later once you have more experience. Even users with many years of editing here can struggle with creating new articles so we don't expect new users to pick it up straight away. Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 10:14, 1 June 2025 (UTC)
