[edit]

I need some help editing 2025 in American television a page I frequent for television updates --Lukas34346 (talk) 05:15, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Lukas34346: Hello and welcome to Wikipedia! What help specifically do you need? ~ Rusty meow ~ 14:08, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I need help to add a date for the return of a television series tennis on TNT I don't know where to place the date May 25th as that is the start of the French Open Lukas34346 (talk) 18:15, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Lukas34346: I saw that you had changed a "TBA" to "May 25" and then reverted it. Which series do you want to put the date on? ~ Rusty meow ~ 18:44, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
tennis on TNT is the show I want to put the date on Lukas34346 (talk) 19:50, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Lukas34346: Done! In the future, you might want to consider using the VisualEditor so you don't have to deal with the underlying code on the page. ~ Rusty meow ~ 21:47, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I do use that sometimes to make visual edits like a recent spelling error on Saturday Night Football was fixed by me using the visual editor Lukas34346 (talk) 23:28, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Daniel Barrios Abad (07:58, 24 April 2025)

[edit]

Hi! Between some of my editing interests are musical album pages. If I were to create a new page for an album, how does the copyright work with the album covers? --Daniel Barrios Abad (talk) 07:58, 24 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Daniel Barrios Abad: There is an exemption from copyright known as fair use, at least in the United States (where Wikipedia servers are located). To meet Wikipedia's Wikipedia:Non-free content guideline/policy, you will need to upload the image on Wikipedia instead of to Wikimedia Commons (as one would do with free (as in libre) content). Additionally, you must provide a non-free use rationale to explain why this image is used instead of a free (as in libre) image, and what article you will use it on. Fair use images that are not used on any article, or do not have a valid rationale, will be deleted.

WikiCup 2025 May newsletter

[edit]

The second round of the 2025 WikiCup ended on 28 April at 23:59 UTC. To reiterate what we said in the previous newsletter, we are no longer disqualifying contestants based on how many points (now known as round points) they received. Instead, the contestants with the highest round-point totals now receive tournament points at the end of each round. These tournament points are carried over between rounds, and can only be earned if a competitor is among the top 16 round-point scorers at the end of each round. This table shows all competitors who have received tournament points so far. Everyone who competed in round 2 will advance to round 3 unless they have withdrawn or been banned.

Round 2 was quite competitive. Four contestants scored more than 1,000 round points, and eight scored more than 500 points (including one who has withdrawn). The following competitors scored at least 800 points:

In addition, we would like to recognize Generalissima (submissions) for her efforts; she scored 801 round points but withdrew before the end of the round.

The full scores for round 2 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 13 featured articles, 20 featured lists, 4 featured-topic articles, 138 good articles, 7 good-topic articles, and more than 100 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 19 In the News articles, and they have conducted nearly 300 reviews.

Remember that any content promoted after 28 April but before the start of Round 3 can be claimed in Round 3. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. [edit]

Hello Mentor! How are you doing today? Can you give me a small brief about Wikipedia? --MANELLFIYO (talk) 12:33, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@MANELLFIYO: Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia that can be edited by anyone. If you're interested in editing, feel free to check out our introduction! Happy editing! ~ Rusty meow ~ 14:59, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I wanted to publish my personal info on wikipedia. how do i go about it? MANELLFIYO (talk) 17:19, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@MANELLFIYO:
That's not something I'd recommend. Wikipedia strongly discourages subjects writing about themselves on Wikipedia, and it could get your blocked from editing. As such, I will not be helping you with that.
If you'd like to contribute constructively to other subjects, however, I'm happy to help! ~ Rusty meow ~ 23:14, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Winfield Kruse (12:59, 29 April 2025)

[edit]

What type of problems are on Wikipedia that I should edit? Is it mainly spelling errors, bad information, or something else? --Winfield Kruse (talk) 12:59, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Winfield Kruse: All of the things you mentioned could be possible issues on Wikipedia, but particularly people adding unsourced info or trying to disrupt the wiki.
How I began editing was doing "anti-vandalism": monitoring recent changes to Wikipedia and reverting those that do not meet content policies (e.g. disruptive, unsourced, etc.)
We have a task center too if you're like to check that out!

Hello. I want to update the list of recipients of the Albert Schweitzer Prize for Humanitarism (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_Schweitzer_Prize_for_Humanitarianism) I have photos and documentation. What's next? Thanks --PaulClementPritchard (talk) 15:42, 3 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@PaulClementPritchard: What you'll want to do when updating the list is to cite what we consider Wikipedia:Reliable sources. For example, note how many of the recipients are cited to news sources; this is what I'd prefer using, but if you can't find those, try using other reliable sources, such as the documentation you mention, if it's considered by us to be reliable. Question from Vaquita01 (01:08, 9 May 2025)

[edit]

Are you real? Either way, I'm happy to have you here. Say, how do you make citations? --Vaquita01 (talk) 01:08, 9 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Vaquita01: Hello and welcome to Wikipedia! I can assure you that I am a real person.
Anyways, to create a citation, it differs depending on if you're in the source editor (which shows the underlying code) or the VisualEditor (which works more like a word processor).
In the source editor, click the dropdown labeled "Cite", then the dropdown labeled "templates" has a few of the most common citation formats. If that doesn't work for you, you can always create a reference manually, by enclosing text in the code <ref>...</ref>. For example, <ref>Example text</ref> produces the reference: [1]

References

  1. ^ Example text
However, most new editors will prefer to use VisualEditor, which is a "what you see is what you get" editor much like a word processor. In the visual editor, simply click the "Cite" button in the top toolbar.
You can switch between the two editors by using the pencil icon in the top right corner of the editor, or changing it in your preferences.

Question from Vector4900 (05:37, 12 May 2025)

[edit]

Hi Rusty Cat,

I recently added a page Seeley Lake (lake). It was just approved and I was informed that it was given a C-class rating. I've found the Wikipedia:Content assessment page but I'm wondering if you have any suggestions for bringing a page from class-c to class-b. I plan to drive up there to get some good photos to upload to commons but it's quite far. Until then what do you recommend?

Thanks, Vector --Vector4900 (talk) 05:37, 12 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Vector4900: Looking at the criteria, one thing I notice is that there are some sections in the article which consist of only a paragraph; if more info can be found, please expand the sections!
However, I like how the article already seems to meet some of the B-Class criteria, particularly that you have supporting materials such as images and an infobox, have a good article structure, no major grammatical flaws, and plenty of references throughout.

[edit]

I am the subject of the short bio. I would like to correct the text to read: Wendy Z. Goldman, Paul Mellon Distinguished Professor of History, is a social and political historian of Russia. Her early work, Women, the State and Revolution: Soviet Family Policy and Social Life, 1917-1936 (Cambridge University Press, 1993) (awarded the Berkshire Conference Book Award) and Women at the Gates: Gender and Industry in Stalin’s Russia Women (Cambridge University Press, 2002) focused on family policy, women's emancipation, and industrialization. She wrote about Stalinist repression in Terror and Democracy in the Age of Stalin: The Social Dynamics of Repression (Cambridge University Press, 2007) and Inventing the Enemy: Denunciation and Terror in Stalin’s Russia (Cambridge University Press, 2011) (awarded Honorable Mention, Reginald Zelnik Book Prize in History.) She published (with Dr. Joe William Trotter Jr., co-editor) The Ghetto in Global History. 1500 to the Present (Routledge, 2018.) She focused on World War II in Hunger and War: Food Provisioning in the Soviet Union During World War II (Indiana University Press, 2015) (Donald Filtzer, co-editor). Her most recent work (with Donald Filtzer), Fortress Dark and Stern. The Soviet Home Front during World War II (Oxford University Press, 2021) (winner of the Society for Military History prize) is the first comprehensive study of the contribution of the Soviet home front to the victory in World War II. Her articles and books have been translated into Russian, Czech, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, German, and Japanese. She received grants from the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation, National Endowment for the Humanities, American Council of Learned Societies, Social Science Research Council, and National Council for Eurasian and East European Research. She heads the Socialist Studies Seminar at CMU, and is the Director of the CMU Prison Education Project How can I substitute this text for the one that exists? --Wzgoldman (talk) 22:50, 17 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Wzgoldman:
Please read my reply below carefully.
While you could just click the "edit" tab to edit the page and paste that in, by doing so you will be violating the conflict of interest guideline among others. We strongly discourage article subjects from directly editing their articles, and this is one of the reasons. Instead, the correct course of action is to suggest a change on the article's discussion page ("Talk" tab on the top left) and start a new discussion with the text you propose adding, along with citations to back up your changes.

¿Cómo se puede hacer una bandera en Wikipedia? --Chacapu (talk) 01:27, 18 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hola, estás en Wikipedia en inglés, no en Wikipedia en español. Aquí, normalmente no hablamos español.
