Page moves and titles

[edit]

Hi, I've noticed the very high volume of page moves you've made on pages relating to university units. I found your moves from my work with Arizona State University (User:Melted Brie).

I don't think some of the moves fit WP:CONCISE or MOS:&. For instance:

  • W. P. Carey School of Business → Arizona State University W. P. Carey School of Business: Most named business schools do not have the name of the university prepended to them. The school of business is only named the former.
    • I see this might be an attempt to disambiguate from the one at Johns Hopkins, but I'm not sure this was the right way to go about it without a requested move.
  • Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising → Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising: While "and" should be used in text, MOS:& cautions, But retain an ampersand when it is a legitimate part of the style of a proper noun, the title of a work, or a trademark, such as in Up & Down or AT&T.

I also think there are some cases where your reverts of other moves have resulted in a non-common name being used, such as Boston College School of Theology and Ministry. I'd appreciate some of these being brought to a discussion first so as to reduce the number of page moves that need to be reverted. Sammi Brie (she/her · t · c) 07:26, 3 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sammi Brie. Thank you for your attention on this matter. I would like to explain the underlying reasoning as follows.
1. "W. P. Carey School of Business → Arizona State University W. P. Carey School of Business" is due to the good-faith purpose of distinguishing it from the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School.
2. "Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising → Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising": multiple formal sources use "and" instead of "&". The "&" is used interchangeably and primarily for brand styling purposes in some occasions. Sources: Regulations.gov, State of California Employment Development Department, US Department of Education (p. 13), Idaho Division of Career Technical Education. ASU uses "and" (source) and "&" (source) interchangeably.
3. The Boston College School of Theology and Ministry was just renamed last year in 2024. We shall wait to see if the new name became the common name of the school before an instant move of the page. Cfls (talk) 16:02, 3 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
