"Sub-Saharan Africa" as used in the statistics of many the UN institutions

Sub-Saharan Africa is the part of Africa which is south of the Sahara. It includes of all the countries of Africa that are fully or partly located south of the Sahara desert (except Sudan).[1] It contrasts with North Africa, which is considered a part of the Arab world. Somalia, Djibouti, Comoros and Mauritania are geographically part of Sub-Saharan Africa, but also part of the Arab world.[2]
