Emmanuel N'Djoké Dibango (12 December 1933 – 24 March 2020)[1] was a Cameroonian musician and songwriter. He plays the saxophone and vibraphone. He developed a musical style fusing jazz, funk and traditional Cameroonian music. He is best known for his 1972 single "Soul Makossa", which charted in the US Billboard Hot 100. He was born in Douala.
In March 2020, during the 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic, Dibango tested positive for COVID-19 in France.[2] On 23 March, he died in Paris due to the disease. He was 86.[1]
