I sure hope[edit]

you understand the logic of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category_talk:Railway_stations_in_Australia_closed_in_the_1900s - cheers JarrahTree 15:10, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@JarrahTree: If you mean your project tagging just then, it seems fine to me. Fork99 (talk) 21:25, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
apologies, I was misreading diffs, and I was tagging inadequately myself... JarrahTree 02:45, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024[edit]

Hello Fork99,

New Page Review queue January to March 2024

Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.

Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.

Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.

It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!

2023 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.

Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.

Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.

V/Line Sprinter[edit]

Seems like you forgot about that little V/Line Sprinter

I removed the model railways section as it violated WP:PROMO

You should also consider articles of trains from overseas as these may also have the Model Railways section 122.104.182.164 (talk) 23:16, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Good hatnote[edit]

I like what you did better re Cityrail at CityRail. I was mainly trying to avoid it showing up as an unfixable entry at Wikipedia:Database reports/Linked miscapitalizations as it did with the redirect hatnote before I changed the redirect target. Dicklyon (talk) 01:31, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

HVR[edit]

Long time no speak, maybe lacking adequate WP:RS but the actual text added is closer but no cigar, I'm not near adequate RS for the assertions at this stage, but it is out there... Keep the faith! good to see you are keeping up the transport tagging - well done! JarrahTree 11:38, 2 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@JarrahTree: Yeah, I'm sure some of the info is out there too and is probably fine to include somewhere in the article body, but some of the more personal info about the manager and volunteers is a little bit out of the scope of Wikipedia methinks. Fork99 (talk) 11:56, 2 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
hahah - indeed a very good point... JarrahTree 11:57, 2 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
a major problem with relatively low edited articles about volunteer operations is the tendency to slip in some real humdingers, and go un-noticed for ages. Thanks for checking that. JarrahTree 12:01, 2 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Amazing set of disambig pages yesterday! well done! JarrahTree 00:41, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Personal books[edit]

Your offer to look things up in your personal library is a Very Good Thing, and you've got me thinking maybe I should do the same. What would be really cool is a central catalog of such personal libraries. Isaac Rabinovitch (talk) 00:08, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Isaac Rabinovitch: haha I stole the idea from another user! Yeah not a bad idea actually, not sure where you could pitch the idea, maybe at the WP:Village pump? Fork99 (talk) 00:28, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you[edit]

Thanks for catching my spelling error. I make mistakes all the time, and don't mind, but stupid ones like "Sidney" are irritating! Happy days, ~ LindsayHello 09:30, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@LindsayH: All good, don't stress over it! Fork99 (talk) 12:17, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

sigh[edit]

you could have asked at the wa project, for a start.... JarrahTree 01:38, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A close read of the articles that exist could have waylaid a national enquiry, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swan_Transit#TransAlbany for instance. JarrahTree 01:45, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@JarrahTree: First of all, please don't use that dismissive tone with me. I thought I'd ask at the transport project where there's also editors from interstate who might have an opinion (e.g. on notability), and I know that you and @Steelkamp are based in WA. I'll ask at the WA project to contribute then as well. Fork99 (talk) 01:55, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
well if that is how you feel about it, my apologies... The problem with notability is like the melbourne metropolitan focus of the project is hardly an australian wide understanding - and regional western australian bus service articles have never been a high focus of any editor by looks, which makes it far too easy to dismiss regional services in any state - that said, most Perth metro editors are web based (with a very strong bias to PTA and Metronet), and hardly ever adequately even use Trove let alone regional sources - the https://www.pta.wa.gov.au/our-services/transregional system is probably what you might be thinking of for a central default - I would strongly object to reducing back to that for any great urge to deal the gng on to the bus services however depleted the articles may currently appear, as the actual context and history of the services (like Albany) have not been adequately described in the articles as, if you havent noticed, general editing of Australian content is 'down', and going down... in some cases your finding more items for transport tags in australian articles you may be the only editor to visit those articles in the current state of low editing. Furthermore, the resounding echo chamber of Western Australian and Tasmanian projects (of which I am most familiar) strongly suggests that any identification of problem articles would be to actually encourage actual adding more material rather than applying GNG questions.JarrahTree 02:08, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@JarrahTree: I'm not suggesting deletion, just simply a merge and/or expansion where possible. I do agree that the 20th century history aspects of buses in each of these places might have been forgotten about - I don't think that the TransRegional articles are the best place for it since the name implies a focus on the current branding name. If the respective operator already has an article or deserves an article, by all means, go for expanding those I think. Fork99 (talk) 02:15, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
