The 2023–24 Liga 1 (also known as the 2023–24 BRI Liga 1 for sponsorship reasons)[1] was the 14th season of the Liga 1, the top Indonesian football league since its establishment in 2008. The season started on 1 July 2023 and ended on 31 May 2024.[2][3]
PSM Makassar were the reigning champions after outpacing their closest rivals, Persija Jakarta and Persib Bandung in the 2022–23 Liga 1 season.[4]
Teams[edit]
No teams were relegated last season due to the impact of the Kanjuruhan Stadium disaster which lead to the cancellation of 2022–23 Liga 2. Therefore, the 18 teams competing in the league remained the same as the preceding season.[5]
Name changes[edit]
- Bhayangkara changed their full name into Bhayangkara Presisi Indonesia FC with the aim of gathering support from all corners of Indonesia,[6] as well as placing them in line with the Indonesian National Police's other sports team, the Jakarta Bhayangkara Presisi volleyball club.

Foreign players[edit]
Following the decision from the AFC Competitions Committee to increase the foreign players quota for AFC club competitions from the existing 3+1 quota to 5+1 (five players of any nationality and one from an AFC member association) that will take effect from the 2023–24 season onwards,[56] PSSI increased the number of foreign players in Liga 1 clubs from four per team (with one of them coming from a member association of the AFC) to six per team with one of them coming from an ASEAN country.[57]
- Players named in bold indicates the player was registered during the mid-season transfer window.
- Former players named in italics are players that were out of squad or left the club within the season, after the pre-season transfer window, or in the mid-season transfer window, and at least had one appearance.
