解説Wreckage of Lockheed U-2C (56-6693) (38901812811).jpg
c/n 360. On 1st May 1960, civilian pilot Gary Powers flew a Lockheed U-2C from Pakistan on a reconnaissance mission over Russia for the CIA. He was famously shot down by an SA-2 surface to air missile. Less well known is that the missile that shot him down was the first of 8 fired. One of the other missiles actually shot down a Russian MiG-19 which was also trying to intercept Powers. Powers was finally returned to the West in a 'Spy-swap' in February 1962. The remains of his U-2 (s/n 56-6693, msn 360) are now on display in the Central Armed Forces Museum, Moscow, Russia.
