El Campeonato Mundial de Ajedrez 2013 fue un encuentro entre el vigente campeón del mundo de ajedrez, Viswanathan Anand (campeón mundial desde 2007), y el retador, Magnus Carlsen (jugador número uno del escalafón mundial y ganador del Torneo de Candidatos 2013), por la disputa del Campeonato Mundial de Ajedrez 2013. Se celebró bajo el auspicio de la Federación Internacional de Ajedrez (FIDE) del 9 al 22 de noviembre de 2013 en Madrás, India.

Carlsen ganó el encuentro por 6½–3½ puntos después de diez de las doce partidas programadas, convirtiéndose en el decimosexto campeón mundial de ajedrez.[1]​

El candidato se determinó en el Torneo de Candidatos 2013. Por primera vez en 50 años este torneo se organizó con un sistema de todos contra todos a doble ronda, en vez de un torneo de eliminatorias. Se celebró en el Instituto de Ingeniería y Tecnología de Londres del 15 de marzo al 1 de abril de 2013. Los participantes fueron:[3]​

Desde un principio Carlsen era el claro favorito para ganar el torneo, siendo Kramnik y Aronian sus grandes rivales. El torneo lo ganó Carlsen por el segundo criterio de desempate.[5]​

Campeonato Mundial de Ajedrez[editar]

El duelo por el título mundial entre el vigente campeón Anand y el aspirante Carlsen se disputó en el hotel Hyatt Regency Chennai en Madrás, India, del 9 al 22 de noviembre de 2013, bajo el auspicio de la FIDE.[8]​

Estaba programado a 12 partidas, pero terminó después de la décima al conseguir el aspirante Magnus Carlsen 6,5 puntos, tras haber conseguido 3 victorias y haber resultado tablas las 7 partidas restantes.
