My I Ask Why You Started With Any Only Warning[edit]
I'm talking about this IP talk page. They only had 2 edits (both vandalism), and were reverted. You were the first warning. Just wondering why did you start with an only warning? Me Da Wikipedian (talk) 00:18, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Me Da Wikipedian Happy to explain. The user was vandalizing by changing potentially controversial info in quick succession, which is why I did that. Feel free to let me know if that didn't clear it up for you. Thanks --- thetechie@enwiki: ~/talk/$ 00:20, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Me Da Wikipedian Uh oh, looks like I got them confused with another IP. I have apologized and removed them from AIV. Sorry --- thetechie@enwiki: ~/talk/$ 00:22, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's fine. A quick look at my talk page will tell you I've made a lot of mistakes too Me Da Wikipedian (talk) 01:20, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Mind if I change the warning to level 1 or 2? Me Da Wikipedian (talk) 01:21, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Me Da Wikipedian Go ahead. Seriously. And about mistakes, it's funny, because I've never made this mistake before. Oh well. Yes, you may do that. Signed --- thetechie@enwiki: ~/talk/$ 01:23, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oddly enough, this is like the 2nd time in 3 days I've notified a experienced editor about giving only warnings first (although the other one doesn't seem to have just made a mistake) Me Da Wikipedian (talk) 01:27, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm confused. I was talking about a pet peeve, but I got info about a pet. Whatever, it's fine. Back to RC patrolling... thetechie@enwiki: ~/talk/$ 03:01, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi TheTechie. Unfortunately, I have just closed your RfC early for a failure to follow WP:RFCBEFORE. I know this is probably disheartening to hear, and I don't want to discourage you. But the RfC encountered immediate and overwhelming negative feedback. I think that could have been avoided if the RfC had been better workshopped ahead of time. That could have allowed you to appropriately understand issues like Unified Login, or the other issues that editors raised. First raising and workshopping the issue so that you at least understand the issue better allows you to create a better RfC (i.e. one with a better, but rarely guaranteed, chance of success). I think any editor who has been around a while has inherently created an RfC that they look back and think "D'oh!" I know that I have created some not so great RfC's (for example, I created a sports RfC at one point...despite not knowing anything about sports...that went over pretty poorly). I hope this can be a learning moment, and I'm sorry to have to be the bearer of bad news. CaptainEekEdits Ho Cap'n!⚓ 05:42, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
