XEOY-AM[edit]

Hey, I'm willing to take over your failed draft of XEOY-AM that you put up for AfC.

I've written several Mexican radio articles already such as XEQK-AM and XERC-AM. As a near-native Spanish speaker I will likely be able to find solid information to build a sourced article.

Let me know if I can move the draft over under my user page. Thanks in advance! Raymie (tc) 08:37, 9 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

While I'm here, another note on Mexico. {{mexico-inf}} creates an inline citation, which means it is not like the FCC query templates. I'm glad to see it being added to most Mexican radio station articles, but I'm having to go through a lot of your edits to fix the placement of this template. An access date (with parameter accessdate) is also strongly encouraged. Raymie (tc) 05:45, 10 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Mexican stations[edit]

On the Mexican stations you've been adding to the frequency lists, could you please spell out what state the station is in, like the U.S. & Canadian lists have done? The Mexican postal abbreviations are unfamiliar to those of us outside of Mexico & there is no link to what state each station is in, so it's confusing. Thanks!Stereorock (talk) 13:35, 31 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Stereorock:: I need to take partial responsibility for this. The AM lists are not in great shape at all generally. I think they were built from the FCC lists with some wild inaccuracies (out of date calls and lots of stations now exclusively on FM). Mexico almost never uses two-letter state abbreviations like the US: instead it has abbreviations, like Ags., Nay., Qro. and Yuc. (BC and NL are exceptions; they're acronyms.) I've been doing a lot of work on the Mexican radio and TV stuff on Wikipedia — for instance, updating all 32 state-level navboxes with all the new FMs, rebuilding TV station lists, writing stubs.
The FM lists need to be next. They need to be rebuilt from the tables cited through {{mexico-inf}}. We list four 91.3 FMs, and there are now a whopping 12. There are 10 or more stations on most FM frequencies now because of the AM-FM migration, an increased appetite for noncommercial stations and (coming soon) an auction of nearly 200 new FM stations. Raymie (tc) 01:12, 4 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Whenever I visit a Frequency page, I am changing the state abbreviations to the full spellings.Rudy2alan 12:30, 4 August 2015 (UTC)

Good to hear. I'm beginning a rebuild of the FM lists: you can see my status at User:Raymie/Mexico FM rebuild. You can do this, too: use the IFT FM table and rebuild the information by doing a Ctrl-F for each frequency. You cannot use {{FM}} for Mexican FMs as they all carry a suffix. I've already done 88.1 FM through 89.9 FM, plus 103.7 FM.
Just be careful of double callsigns (there are 46 stations of this type in total) and use disambiguation links wherever appropriate. For instance, the 89.3 link to XHRRR-FM is actually to XHRRR-FM (Veracruz). Raymie (tc) 05:55, 8 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Glad to see some improvements. Your work at 91.3 FM was pretty near perfect. One thing: if you add stations, please make sure they carry their FM suffixes (e.g. XHFEM-FM). Raymie (tc) 03:52, 10 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
And the rebuild is now complete on FM. Raymie (tc) 19:44, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You've been doing great work with the AM lists. Your speculation on XEQF --> XE/XHCORO is correct. Usually if you have questions like that it's best to look at the earliest document available in the RPC. I hope you've noticed the tables were updated yesterday — the biggest changes were on TV, as should be expected. Had I not been finding motherlodes of authorizations in there, there would be been probably over 80 changes from the TV list.

  • Good catch on XEUAG. It may be broadcasting without a permit. It, as the calls suggest, is/was the station of the Universidad Autónoma de Guerrero.
  • XETEB is not in the table. Its replacement with an FM station is impending as last month the IFT agreed to award TRC an FM station in Campeche, Camp. — which is a move of about 40 km. It is definitely on the air.
  • XEON --> XHONC. This is a case where the station received an especially unusual callsign change in migration. That threw you off. In this case, the C is for Chiapas. The same thing happened to XEFC (XHFCY) and XENA (XHNAQ). Raymie (tc) 05:31, 21 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Radiolocator[edit]

Please note that WP:WPRS has a longstanding consensus that Radiolocator.com links are not used on Canadian radio stations — because Radiolocator is based on records in the FCC database rather than CRTC/Industry Canada data, the information in a Radiolocator profile is not necessarily accurate for Canadian stations. Ownership or technical changes (change of transmitter stats, change of frequency, etc.) are not necessarily reflected accurately — for example, there was at least one Canadian radio station which converted from AM to FM in 1993, but whose entry on Radiolocator as late as 2010 still listed it as being on its abandoned AM frequency. So we don't use it for Canadian stations, because it can't be guaranteed as accurate for that purpose. Thanks. Bearcat (talk) 18:48, 7 October 2015 (UT

Los 40, no Principales[edit]

The entire Los 40 Principales network worldwide, including in Mexico, was rebranded today as Los 40 with a new logo. See Twitter: https://twitter.com/los40mx

The name has also been shortened to Los 40. Oh boy there are going to be a ton of articles to update and a bunch of logos. Raymie (tc) 18:00, 15 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Note: The article has already moved to Los 40. There is also a version of the new logo available. Raymie (tc) 18:06, 15 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I'd removed the image because XHVU and XHZS ditched Radiorama and consequently had to change names (I think they own the trademarks to Éxtasis Digital and @FM). Again, Radiorama is confusing to me... Raymie (tc) 22:04, 16 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Los 40[edit]

Can we just start going through and replacing-updating all the Los 40 taglines and logos? The correct slogan now is "Music Inspires Life" (yes, in English). Raymie (tc) 04:02, 29 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Raymie: Sounds good; I suppose the corporate logo without city or frequency might be all there is for most of the Los 40 stations. The station in Tijuana was one exception so far; I think I found that one on Facebook. Rudy2alan
I just don't think they're using variants a lot on social. Also, as a network format, a lot of stations don't have their own sites (I know of a couple exceptions, like San Luis Potosí). Raymie (tc) 20:50, 29 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Imagen logo changes[edit]

Every single Imagen Radio logo changed.

The new ones look like this: http://www.imagenchihuahua.mx/images/chihuahua-logo.png

Not all of them seem to be on the station sites yet, but the circle and square logo was made official just yesterday in the lead up to the launch of Imagen Televisión, so... Raymie (tc) 03:58, 28 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Raymie: Thanks for the notice; I'll keep a lookout for them.Rudy2alan 13:13, 28 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Logos[edit]

The logos like you added to XHRJ-FM and XHOCA-FM are new. I haven't seen either of those styles before. Given we're talking ACIR, they're probably being used on *all* stations in those networks (much like they refreshed their Mix logo last year). (The La Comadre logo is a huge upgrade!) There's just one note of caution: the new logos don't apply to XHDC or XHZAZ as there appears to have been a bit of a breakup between ACIR and Grupo Radiofónico ZER and the website displays very temporary-looking logos with a new name, "Amor Es 104.5"/"Amor Es 99.3" (Love Is 99.3). Raymie (tc) 13:47, 2 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Raymie: Thanks for the info; I'll make a note to use caution with XHDC & XHZAZ. Rudy2alan 14:13, 2 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

How do I add images of radio stations?[edit]

I don't know how to add images, because I fear of copyright issues. I want to go over the copyright hurdles, but I don't know how. What do I do, so I can get approval by the people who made a radio station's logo, like what you did with WRVQ? I know how to upload images, I just don't know how to get approval from the logo creators (which I assume is iHeartMedia), because I assume those logos are copyrighted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jonathan7157 (talkcontribs) 17:37, 19 March 2017 (UTC) --B-bot (talk) 18:42, 18 February 2[reply]

HD Radio/Mexico[edit]

Wanted to tell you something about citations for HD Radio in Mexico.

The official list on the HD Radio site sucks and appears to be essentially abandoned. I think XHUNO and XHUZ were the last stations added.

Their official Twitter does announce new HD stations, and for those stations that have multiple subchannels (like XHMSL-FM), a call to {{mexico-MP}} suffices. (The procedure to get HD subchannels authorized in Mexico is identical to the one used for digital TV stations.)

For instance, here are mentions of stations broadcasting in HD but not listed.

There are a couple of specific categories of stations that must be in HD — these are 50 of the 114 FM stations from the IFT-4 radio station auction, where committing to IBOC meant a bonus, and 41 recent migrations of AM stations, which because of the guidelines for migration must use HD.

I also maintain a map of HD stations, but I don't use my own resources for article citations. Raymie (tc) 04:01, 22 October 2018 (UTC) @Raymie: Thanks for the heads up; it's weird that "HD Radio" updates their Twitter account but not their own website.[reply]

While I agree with you that the above article topic is notable the idea that it is "immediately protected" strikes me as a strong misreading of policy. The move to draft space by another NPP reviewer seems entirely justifiable to me. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 00:31, 26 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

WSSO moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, WSSO, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Resource you might find helpful[edit]

Hello fellow radio station article aficionado...

So, a bunch of years ago, I came across a website (I think as a Google search result) that was interesting. The focus of the guy who ran it was streaming radio, back in the days before every station had an online feed. But it was a side project that he'd done that caught my eye — he'd had a bee in his bonnet about concentration of ownership, and had done a bunch of work to figure out (at least for the big companies) which licensees belonged to which company. I found it really helpful in some navbox and categorization work that I was doing, and actually reached out to him a couple of times when I found connections that he'd missed. He used that info to update his databases, and an occasional collaboration was born.

I touch base with him every once in a while. He's an ex-Wikipedian — got turned off by some of the approach to things back about a decade ago — but he still has a lot of respect for the work that people put in, and he's interested in helping people keep it up to date. He updates his database daily based on the FCC info, so it's a unique opportunity to uncover interesting stuff. For example, a few years back, he built a page on his site for me that just tracks call sign changes — makes it a whole lot easier to jump on those before people have a chance to mess them up (particularly swaps).

Most recently, he was telling me that he's doing a station-by-station review of his data, as some of the non-FCC stuff has gotten stale. We talked about how that could spin off, and as a result, he's built a page that summarizes the changes he's making. Alongside that, he's actually able to identify where some of the info on Wikipedia for the station is outdated or missing. It pops up a range of stuff - articles that haven't been created is a lot of it right now, but also dead/missing/outdated websites, streams, licensees, formats, branding, etc.

I know you do some article creation. Don't know if there's any magic in how you decide what you want to work on, but if you're interested, this page is helpful. It'll give you website addresses and formats without having to go looking for them, so you can flesh out the basic FCC information more easily.

So, if you'd like to give it a look or use it, you'll find it at https://streamingradioguide.com/adm/change-list.php. Check the "Include Editor" and "Wikipedia needs update" boxes at the top of the page, and it'll filter the list down to just the stuff that's relevant for us. Then, if you create an article or update the incorrect/outdated information, just check the box in the "Fixed?" column for that row, and then click the Update button and it'll go away. Don't check that otherwise, though. :>)

I'm not listing this on the project page right now — only on the talk pages of some of the more experienced editors who I'm confident won't mess things up for him. But if you get some use out of it, let me know — I'm sure he'd be interested if usage spreads beyond just me. I'm only one man with only so much time... Author[edit]

Please stop adding your own username in the "Author" field on images you upload which are copied from other sources. The person/organisation who created the image originally is the author - not you. Copying a file and uploading it does not make you the author - you are simply the uploader. Thank you. -- Begoon 00:07, 1 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Apparently I thought my username in the "author" field meant that I was the author of the file, not the logo itself; there was no nefarious or corrupt intent on my part. I DO list from where the logo came, so I thought it was obvious that I did NOT create the logo. user:Rudy2alan (talk) @Begoon:
...and nor did I think for a second that there was any "nefarious or corrupt intent", or intend to imply that I did - I was simply correcting a misapprehension. It's perfectly obvious, yes, but you are not the "author", so should not be named in that field. I'm sorry you felt the need to become defensive, I certainly didn't intend to upset you in any way, there were simply many times that I needed to remove it when I was editing files which you have uploaded for non-free reductions, improvements, background removals etc, and I thought I could save a bit of time for both of us by mentioning it here, while increasing the accuracy of file descriptions. If you took it otherwise then I apologise.

Incidentally, pings only work if the post is on a new line and contains a new signature, editing a post to add one doesn't work - so I didn't receive the one above. Thanks. -- Begoon 03:22, 2 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

XHJH[edit]

Yes, that's a new logo. Earlier this year ABC rolled out new logos that look less like...the American ABC. Raymie (tc) 18:10, 16 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Raymie: The problem is that XHJH appears to have no website, and the only new logos which I could find were chopped off on the sides. ABC 760 has a new logo and good website; no such luck with XHJH. Rudy2alan

Mexican station classes[edit]

Where are you getting the class information for some of the Mexican stations you've been adding (thinking of XHUMI-FM, for instance)? There's no class T or T0 in Mexico, just D, A, AA, B1, B, C1 and C. Raymie (tc) 00:45, 26 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'm getting them from the IFT Coverage Viewer. Rudy2alan

When logos disappear[edit]

I think the IP(s) that are removing logos are doing so because they are old/no longer used or because the station's legal status is in question (e.g. XHERS-FM). With the expired concessions I've been waiting until they leave the air to talk much about them, in large part because I have a policy of not citing my own blog. Raymie (tc) 17:35, 7 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Can you find a source for "The translator also provides high fidelity stereophonic sound."? Else, someone might come along and add the dreaded Template:Citation needed. I'm not, though. :) If you/find a soruce, let me know and I will it in the correct format and add it to the page. - NeutralhomerTalk • 14:21 on April 26, 2020 (UTC) • #StayAtHome

@Neutralhomer: Actually, I just assumed that the translator is stereo as most are, and the translator is high fidelity (at least compared to its AM counterpart) due to the fact that it is FM. It would probably be very difficult to find a source and someone would probably need to verify by listening to the translator. No problem for me if you think "high fidelity stereophonic" should be removed. User:Rudy2alan

Infobox RfC[edit]

I'm proposing a redesign containing visual, technical and other improvements to {{Infobox radio station}} and {{Infobox broadcast}}. The discussion is located at Wikipedia:WikiProject Radio Stations/2020 infobox redesign proposal. As an editor active in editing radio and/or TV station articles, or in recent changes to the templates in question, I wanted to make you aware of this proposal and kindly ask for your feedback. Infobox revamp[edit]

Hey, suggestion... (and I'm also going to ping Tdl1060 here) I really appreciate the zeal for the new infobox! I need to coordinate how to get it into mainspace, though, and I want you to keep a few things in mind:

  • New logos should be added using |logo= and |logo_size= instead of |image= and |image_size=, though that's not an absolute necessity. The templates now support a logo and an image (a capacity TV already had, see the third example at User:Raymie/Infobox broadcast revamp).
  • |licensing_authority=[[Federal Communications Commission|FCC]] on any article that is an active US station that is not an LPFM (don't use it on LPFMs) will add public file and LMS links right in the template, like on the TV side. You'll want to really start adding this when the template goes live in mainspace.
  • There's no need to update templates now; I've mostly been doing it in cases where one of the new parameters is useful and to close the gap on Category:Radio station articles without infoboxes which is chock-full of small Canadian outlets. I will need to coordinate to have a bot update the template transclusions to reflect the various changed parameter names when this goes live at the existing template location, and likely to have the dozens of transclusions of the userspace radio template changed to the main template title again. So ease up on changing over existing boxes.

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:KAPN ClassicHits107.3 logo.png[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:KAPN ClassicHits107.3 logo.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. -bɜ:ʳkənhɪmez (User/say hi!) 18:05, 15 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
