Interwiki[edit]

Who's doing the interwiki report this week? Sugarpinet 14:24, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, if you need any help with interwiki reports let me know. BTW, sorry if this was wrong of me, but I've already asked around in the Japanese Wikipedia for someone to do an interwiki report there. Let me know what help you need, and btw, Treebark might be back soon. Sugarpinet 22:20, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Anyway I asked russian wiki to write a report but no answer form there... NCurse work 09:22, 14 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

We need help with Dutch right now. Russian is a bit to small as it Bengali which Ragib is writing about. As for Portguese, I think I'll take care of that busniess, though I can't confirm. I haven't heard back from any news about Japanese right now so I'm still waiting. Sugarpinet 22:05, 14 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm off to the Dutch Wiki, now. Sugarpinet 22:07, 14 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Anyways, I've asked two people from Dutch, now to go the Japanese Wiki. Could you look for people to do Portugese? Sugarpinet 22:13, 14 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello[edit]

Hi Kpjas. I'm back from my wikibreak, it was very long. Good progress with interwiki reports. I'm ready to retake my postion. May I ask you why were doing a report on the Bengali Wikipedia? It's too small..I thought we agreed on something like 10 wikipedias. Thank you for all your help with interwiki. eebark t | c 00:20, 17 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I do not feel that Russian is big enough. Sugarpine's already asked someone from the Japanese Wikipedia, but most people say no. eebark t | c 13:57, 17 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Japanese[edit]

Could you find someone from ja? Everyone's saying no in nl, but I'm working on that, and no one even replies in ja. The chatsboo link on the main page is where I posted. Sugarpinet/c 15:10, 18 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Portuguese[edit]

Hi, Kpjas. I would like to volunteer for the Portuguese Wikipedia report. Is there some kind of special requirement for writing the text (other than it has to be in English)? Indech 18:04, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

Nope. Sugarpinet/c 22:06, 18 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Russian[edit]

Actully, we can do a russian report. I'm taking a break due to software so I won't be around for a while though I may check in to edit my watchlist every now and then. Thanks. Sugarpinet/c 14:26, 19 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

ForestH2, Sugarpine, Carmelapple, Streamwater, and I believe Apple9 are all the same user, as well as some 10-15 other sockpuppets. Watch for that when users offer to help you with the report- as far as I'm concerned, the user's worn out his welcome with me. Ral315 (talk) 20:27, 25 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Hmmwv model.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Hmmwv model.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Nv8200p talk 20:54, 27 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

your irc request regarding signpost dutch article[edit]

hi, i posted in our village pump nl:Wikipedia:De_kroeg#Wikipedia_Signpost.

translation :

The signpost asked once again for a contribution for one of its coming issues. I said it would maybe nice to do this at the 250.000 mark, but 'celebrating 250K can be a separate article for the Signpost'. I started on nl:Gebruiker:Aleichem/Signpost. Examples are te be found here and here. When nobody cooperates i will do it all by myself, and at last i will be given the chanche to criticize everyting going on nl:wiki :-) . So please quick additions, and not so boring as in the examples above. greetings Aleichem overleg 30 sep 2006 22:48 (CEST)

Through-transmission ultrasonography vs pulse echo[edit]

Since you are the original author of the article on medical ultrasonography, I am letting you known that I posted the following message on the talk page of the article: "A very good and interesting article on medical ultrasonography. I have noted that through-transmission ultrasonography is not mentioned ( as used for example in quantitative ultrasound to assess bone density ). Should that be included in this article or should it be the subject of a separate article ?" Thanks for your time :-)Dr. Imbeau 02:28, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I could provide one for this edition but I'd also welcome a one week delay because the next days will be a bit busy for me. Hi, I have seen that you are using the Cacycle editor extension. This program is no longer actively maintained in favor of its much more powerful successor wikEd.

wikEd has all the functionality of the old editor plus: • syntax highlighting • nifty image buttons • more fixing buttons • paste formatted text from Word or web pages • convert the formatted text into wikicode • adjust the font size • and much, much more.

Switching to wikEd is easy, check the detailed installation description on its project homepage. Often it is as simple as changing every occurrence of editor.js into wikEd.js on your User:YourUsername/monobook.js page.

Thanks for uploading Image:Veniarms.png. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

Thanks for uploading Image:Czosnek 1511.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. Speedy deletion of Image:Bolonia 3.jpg[edit]

A tag has been placed on Image:Bolonia 3.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I8 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is available as a bit-for-bit identical copy on the Wikimedia Commons under the same name, or all references to the image on Wikipedia have been updated to point to the title used at Commons.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image:Bolonia 3.jpg|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Sdrtirs (talk) 09:40, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Kpjas I need your help. I am working on a research project at Boston College, studying creation of medical information on Wikipedia. You are being contacted because you have been identified as an important contributor to one or more articles.

Would you will be willing to answer a few questions about your experience? We've done considerable background research, but we would also like to gather the insight of the actual editors. Details about the project can be found at the user page of the project leader, geraldckane. Survey questions can be found at geraldckane/medsurvey. Your privacy and confidentiality will be strictly protected!

The questions should only take a few minutes. I hope you will be willing to complete the survey, as we do value your insight. Please do not hesitate to contact me or Professor Kane if you have any questions. Thank You, BCproject (talk) 16:16, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome back[edit]

Fanfare :) WP:PWNB is a good place to watchlist. My advice is - do whatever you feel is fun (I couldn't get all the details quickly - consider opting in for stat fun :). If you are interested in science in Poland, that needs help... on the other hand, practically every topic section imaginable is understaffed. History is in the best shapes, but is also most controversial. Avoid being dragged into controversial, stressful disputes. Solidarity[edit]

Hi Kpjas

I have seen that you have been busy tidying-up the newly-created Solidarity (South African trade union) page. I have big plans for that page. I am going to make it much more complete and comprehensive. The content that is on the page now is really just there as a placeholder. Eventually, the plan is to have separate pages for each of Solidarity's affiliate projects like AfriForum and Helpende Hand as well, as well as a translation of the page on the Afrikaans Wikipedia and the Dutch one as well. Other languages would probably have to be done by other people.

I would appreciate any help you want to give with keeping the content encyclopedic and up to Wikipedia's standards. I am employed at Solidarity, so therefore anything I add could be considered as properly sourced material? The parts about the history of Solidarity can be found in the book by Wessel Visser that I added as "Further Reading".

I'd appreciate hearing any suggestions from you, as I see you are a veteran Wikipedia editor. Are you (or have you been) active with the Polish Solidarity?

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Solidarnosc.png)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Solidarnosc.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:15, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Krzysztof[edit]

Hi Kryzstof, greetings to you and thank you for your invitation to feel free to ask you about any clarifications about Wikipedia. I would like to ask you how can I (or some administrator) change back the wrong presentation of the South Slavic languages and dialects division, placed in the chart, which is placed in the right side of the articles about Serbian, Croatian, Bosnian, Bunjevac and Serbo-Croatian language? In the chart named 'Chart of South Slavic languages and dialects' someone has changed the basically known fact that the politically created standards of the SerboCroatian language, such as Croatian, Serbian, Bosnian, Bunjevac, etc., they all belong to the Central South Slavic languages, and they don't belong in the same group with Slovenian language (which is Western group of South Slavic Languages). Please if you can, help me correct back this factual state of the things in this chart, because like it is now - it gives a wrong information to the readers. It should be like it was before,-showing: Serbian, Croatian, Bunjevac, and Bosnian in the SAME group of dialects, and that group is CENTRAL South Slavic Diasystem. Thanks;

As for the one who is complaining about me above, please have in mind that he is the one who started first with the vandalism, calling me names and erasing my edits on some 'talk' pages. I know that it's not of your business, just to let you know. Best Regards, 24.86.116.250 (talk) 00:56, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This guy must be very lonely and is seeking attention. I believe this is not place for helping people who are bored. User:24.86.116.250[edit]

A week block for this? Isn't that a tad extreme? I've seen established users, even admins, get more vocal when things get heated. The user seems to be more of a career newbie than a vandal. Given his history, I would naturally support a brief warning-shot-style block, but a week? What also concerns me is that your lengthy block may affect consensus on the pages he is debating on, if his voice is not represented. +Hexagon1 (t) 05:37, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm, I still would have given some indication that things are heading towards a block were the user to continue in his behaviour, but I see where you are coming from. +Hexagon1 (t) 08:07, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Actually 24.* has been systematically trolling talk pages (0 mainspace edits) for a year or so. What is really pathetic is utilizing the "fighting nationalist" rhetoric in advance to whitewash himself of possible accusations of him being the real POV partisan, with no real arguments and esp. no desire for any constructive discussion. Of the topic he "discusses" (West South Slavic languages), he apparently has no competence, misquoting the "authoritative" sources, spreading lies and ad hominems against anyone who dares to question or let alone invalidate his perception of the "truth". --Ivan Štambuk (talk) 23:20, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What you're saying Ivan - is EXACTLY what you're doing on these pages, if you have problems blaming others for what you're doing, than that's your seerious problem, and you'd better start seeking some help:)). Bye.24.82.216.163 (talk) 02:56, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Quoting from the talkpage: those who I was dealing with these days -they are all most likely supporters of one destructive and defeated force, supporting the ones who glorify their fascisoid NDH and fascism and who salute 'heil Hitler' at the soccer stadiums. Calling people fascists and supporters of Hitler would certainly merit a nice block, wouldn't it? --Ivan Štambuk (talk) 11:10, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, thanks for your edits to infectious mononucleosis. I noticed you moved all the differential diagnosis stuff into a new section and unfortunately I've had to undo that. WP:MEDMOS/Diseases states that differentials should be included within the diagnosis section of the article. You may wish to read through MEDMOS further to understand further how medical sectioning (in an article sense, not a psychiatric sectioning sense!) works here. Thanks again for your edits, I look forward to working with you more in future. —Cyclonenim (talk · contribs · email) 13:19, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Antibiotics and alcohol[edit]

I disagree with the edits you performed on the antibiotics page. That article is NOT intended to be pure technical formal definition of which antibiotics exactly directly react with alcohol. This is for general reader, and for average person it's important to know that alcohol is dangerous with any antibiotics and very dangerous with some of them. It's a common opinion in the medical community, i posted the references, which you removed. Besides it's based on a simple facts and logic about liver enzymes. The reference you posted cannot be easily accessed of verified by an average person. It's a 6yo book, and I'm sure it just checks the "direct" reactions of the antibiotics, and does not look at indirect effects. Who do you think reads this page? Who will get hurt if we give a warning there? Better, if we just say what most of the doctors in the world will tell you? What you say there now is the bold (incorrect) statement that alcohol is not dangerous with antibiotics ("contrary to popular belief"?) Who you wrote that statement for, chronic alchoholics looking for a reason to drink? I personally had severe liver problems, when i drank alcohol with one of (supposed to be safe) antibiotics. I want to warn other ppl, so they are at least aware of potential complications, and not just send them straight to the cemetery. That article is the place to warn.Andru nl (talk) 14:41, 26 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Czosnek2 1511.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

WikiProject Poland Newsletter • April 2011
For our freedom and yours

Welcome to our first issue of WikiProject Poland newsletter, the Monitor (named after the first Polish newspaper).

Our Project has been operational since 1 June, 2005, and also serves as the Poland-related Wikipedia notice board. I highly recommend watchlisting the Wikipedia:WikiProject Poland page, so you can be aware of the ongoing discussions. We hope you will join us in them, if you haven't done so already! Unlike many other WikiProjects, we are quite active; in this year alone about 40 threads have been started on our discussion page, and we do a pretty good job at answering all issues raised.

In addition to a lively encyclopedic, Poland-related, English-language discussion forum, we have numerous useful tools that can be of use to you - and that you could help us maintain and develop:

This is not all; on our page you can find a list of useful templates (including userboxes), awards and other tools!

With all that said, how about you join our discussions at WT:POLAND? Surely, there must be something you could help others with, or perhaps you are in need of assistance yourself?

MSU Interview[edit]

Dear Kpjas,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your nameHERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chlopeck (talkcontribs) 03:52, 20 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

WikiMedicine[edit]

Hi

I'm contacting you because, as a participant at Wikiproject Medicine, you may be interested in a new multinational non-profit organization we're forming at m:Wikimedia Medicine. Even if you don't want to be actively involved, any ideas you may have about our structure and aims would be very welcome on the project's talk page.

Our purpose is to help improve the range and quality of free online medical content, and we'll be working with like-minded organizations, such as the World Health Organization, professional and scholarly societies, medical schools, governments and NGOs - including Translators Without Borders.

Hope to see you there! --Anthonyhcole (talk) 08:23, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The Wikipedia Library now offering accounts from Cochrane Collaboration (sign up!)[edit]

The Wikipedia Library gets Wikipedia editors free access to reliable sources that are behind paywalls. Because you are signed on as a medical editor, I thought you'd want to know about our most recent donation from Cochrane Collaboration.

  • Cochrane Collaboration is an independent medical nonprofit organization that conducts systematic reviews of randomized controlled trials of health-care interventions, which it then publishes in the Cochrane Library.
  • Cochrane has generously agreed to give free, full-access accounts to 100 medical editors. Individual access would otherwise cost between $300 and $800 per account.
  • If you are still active as a medical editor, come and sign up :)

WikiProject Poland Newsletter • January 2014 • Issue II[edit]

WikiProject Poland Newsletter • January 2014 • Issue II
For our freedom and yours

Welcome to the second issue of WikiProject Poland newsletter, the Monitor (named after the first Polish newspaper).

Unlike many other WikiProjects, we are quite active; we get close to a hundred discussion threads each year and we do a pretty good job at answering all issues raised. Last year we were featured in the Signpost, and our interviewer was amazed at our activity. In the end, however, even as active as we are, we are just a tiny group - you can easily become one of our core members!

In addition to a lively encyclopedic, Poland-related, English-language discussion forum, we have numerous useful tools that can be of use to you - and that you could help us maintain and develop:

  • we have an active assessment department. As of now, our project has tagged almost 83,000 pages as Poland-related - that's an improvement of over 3,000 new pages since the last newsletter. Out of which 30 still need a quality assessment, and 2,000, importance assessment. We have done a lot to clear the backlog here (3 years ago those numbers were 1,500 and 20,000, respectively). Can you help assess a few pages?
    • assessing articles is as easy as filling in the class= and importance= parameters on the talk page in the {{WPPOLAND|class=|importance=}} template. See here for a how-to guide.
  • once an article has an assessment template, it will appear in our article alerts and news feed, which provides information on which Poland-related articles are considered for deletion, move, or are undergoing a Good or Featured review. Watchlisting that feed, in addition to watchlisting our project's main page, is a good way to make sure you stay up to date on most Poland-related discussions.
  • you can also see detailed deletion discussions at Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Poland (which is a good place to watchlist if you just want to stay up to date on possible deletions of Poland-related content)
  • we have also begun B-class quality reviews on our talk page, and if our activity increases, hopefully we will be able to institute our own A-class quality reviews. As of now, we have about 500 C-class articles in need of a B-class review. If you'd like to help with them, instructions for doing B-class reviews are to be found in point 10 of our assessment FAQ. In addition to this automated list, you are also encouraged to help review articles from our B-class reviews requested list found here.
  • also, those articles will be included in our cleanup listing, which allows us to see which top-importance articles are in need for attention, and so on. We have tens of thousands articles in need of cleanup there, so if you ever need something to do, just look at this gigantic list. (I am currently reviewing the articles tagged with notability, either proving them notable or nominating for deletion; there are still several dozens left if you want to help!).
  • did you know that newly created Poland-related articles are listed here. They need to be reviewed, often cleaned-up, occasionally nominated for deletion, and their creators may need to be welcomed and invited to our project if they show promise as new authors of Poland-related content.
  • we are maintaining a Portal:Poland
  • automated Wikipedia:WikiProject Poland/Popular pages lists the most popular Poland-related pages from the previous month(s)
  • Breaking news: we are looking for a Wikipedian in Residence for the New York City area. See Wikipedia:GLAM/Józef Piłsudski Institute of America for details.

This is not all; on our page you can find a list of useful templates (including userboxes), awards and other tools!

With all that said, how about you join our discussions at WT:POLAND? Surely, there must be something you could help others with, or perhaps you are in need of assistance yourself?

It took me three years to finish this issue. Feel free to help out getting the next one before 2017 by being more active in WikiProject management :)

Feature – Ebola articles[edit]

Electron micrograph of an Ebola virus virion

During August we have translated Disease and it is now live in more than 60 different languages! To help us focus on African languages Rubric has donated a large number of articles in languages we haven't previously reached–so a shout out them, and Ian Henderson from Rubric who's joined us here at Wikipedia. We're very happy for our continued collaboration with both Rubric and Translators without Borders!

Just some of our over 60 translations:
New roles and guides!

At Wikimania there were so many enthusiastic people jumping at the chance to help out the Medical Translation Project, but unfortunately not all of them knew how to get started. That is why we've been spending considerable time writing and improving guides! They are finally live, and you can find them at our home-page!

New sign up page!

We're proud to announce a new sign up page at WP:MTSIGNUP! The old page was getting cluttered and didn't allow you to speficy a role. The new page should be easier to sign up to, and easier to navigate so that we can reach you when you're needed!

Style guides for translations

Translations are of both full articles and shorter articles continues. The process where short articles are chosen for translation hasn't been fully transparent. In the coming months we hope to have a first guide, so that anyone who writes medical or health articles knows how to get their articles to a standard where they can be translated! That's why we're currently working on medical good lede criteria! The idea is to have a similar peer review process to good article nominations, but only for ledes.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Extended confirmed protection[edit]

Hello, Kpjas. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 da
