Hi my name is White Mobile

I deleted a section of the 'sinhalese people' article because it states that the current sinhalese are the aborignals mixed with aryans from the north. However this is not correct. This is due to the many studies which can be seen on the wikipedia page 'Genetic studies on Sinhalese' and many other websites which all state that the Sinhalses are of bengali descent and although they have many contributions the native sri lankan aborigingal gene proportion found in the sinhalese is muinute. This therefore contradicts what is stated on this website. I then decided to see for myself where this incorrect data was sourced from and found it was from a sinhalese hritage website. These websites often like to say that the sinhalese are of aboriginal descent for their own means and thus if you were to search elsewhere would find no other factual evidence has shown the same message but actually quite the contrary. Therefore i deleted a section of the article so that it would not mislead people to fact. Thanks for taking the time in explaining this. The thing to do now, if you haven't done so already is to repeat what you have written above on the article talkpage, and if possible find a reliable reference for the genetic studies. Actually I don't see much conflict in what the article says and your claims. The phrasing can be rewritten to emphasise that these claims are part of the national mythology and folklore which is not supported by recent genetic studies. --KTo288 (talk) 21:58, 17 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

That is true it does not confict much but i believe it would be better and more easier for readers if multiple claims were not laid down. There is a seperate article for that and i thought that for some readers that do not focus much they would take this in the wrong way and interpret it wrong and believe it is factual rather than ideological. My reference is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genetic_studies_on_Sinhalese#mediaviewer/File:Genetic_admixture_of_Sinhalese_by_Papiha.PNG which shows the genetic makeup of the sinhalese people and all the studies on their show little genetic input into the sinhalese population. Therefore the ideas stated that they descend from the aboriginals is incorrect. Don't worry we were all new to this at one time. But for the moment an you refrain from editing the article until tomorrow. We have something called the 3 revert rule which means, you shouldn't revert an article more than 3 times in a 24 hour period. No problem at all, sometimes what an article needs is a fresh pair of eyes to look at it, and call out the inconsistencies and misstatements, and I agree with you this one needed it. Its just that on contentious articles (you can tell its contentious because it was protected with pending edits review) in order to carry the community major changes should either first be discussed, or be referenced. I hope this experience doesn't put you off from editing. Hello, It is a long time since the CZEMS was merged into the Zenana article; perhaps its notability was doubtful then, as it still seems to be. Most of the time I do not pay much attention to Wikisource and do not know the recommended method of citing it so those citatons may look somewhat odd. I noticed it this time because it was an unassessed Anglicanism article and first I found the Commons img, then thought of Wikisource and found much more than expected. Here is a book published by CEZMS 27 Chancery Lane, London:Chopsticks; by F. I. Codrington [1928]; and 2 more: Macfee, K. J. & Codrington, Florence I. Eastern Schools and Schoolgirls. Notability wise it seems to be a small part of then large English speaking Anglican community, but a large part of the Chinese speaking Anglican community. Individual members of the Anglican and Baptist societies, and the schools they found!d and ran, are also considered to be notable in their own right. Which is a bit of a new one for me, editing Kpop bands, I usually encounter the argument "notability is not inherited" with regards the band may be notable but not the individual members. The Telegraph.) used, the name "Strategic Operating Vessels" (SOV) does not appear, rather the article refers to “special operations boats/swimmer delivery vehicle” SOB/SDV, the source has been misrepresented. I have renamed the article to Indian Navy Swimmer Delivery Vehicle, and will edit the template to reflect this. However I want to make sure that all the articles using the "Strategic Operating Vessels name are corrected, however this is complicated by the fact that most of the articles have the link via the template rather than in the article body, rather than checknevery single incoming page I want to give a chance for the database to update, and just edit those pages which link to the article.--KTo288 (talk) 09:13, 28 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Not my article, no one owns articles, just one I happened to work on. PRehse didn't delete the article just nominated it for speedy because it was a recreation of an article previously deleted after a deletion discussion. The thing to do is not endlessly recreate exactly the same article, but to create a new article which addresses the concerns raised by the discussion namely lack of reputable third party sources and proof of notability. Pretty difficult at the moment, I looked and could find only three sources I could use. My advice is to maybe wait a year, either the company will run out of cash and fizzle away into the aether or it will gain traction, and will gain more coverage that can be used. At that time if it can be demonstrated that the issues raised in the deletion discussion no longer apply, an article can be created that will survive. @Urquhartnite: "It is announced on 5 August 2015", grates, it reads like historical present tense reads and looks out of place. "It was announced on 5 August 2015" is a better match. If you want to keep it in the present tense try "Kids Company announced on 5 August 2015"

Hi, KTo288 - You removed File:Kerry_Fonda_2004_election_photo.jpg using the rationale in your edit summary that (fair use rationale of copyrighted image does not include its use in this article, add link to see also) The license for that image states that use of the work to illustrate the subject in question' where no free equivalent is available to adequately give the same information qualifies as fair use under US copyright law. While I am not a copyright attorney, I am well-versed in copyright law after having experienced several copyvio cases (never as a defendant) during my 30+ year career as a photog and television producer. It appears to me that your rationale for removing the subject image contradicts the license rationale as follows: The image was used to specifically illustrate the subject, i.e. Kerry being added to a photograph to make it appear he attended a political rally he did not attend. The photograph was used specifically to illustrate the subject in question in the sections, "Use in journalism" and "Political and ethical issues". Since you are an admin at Commons, will you please explain why you think your argument for removal is any more valid than the argument to keep per the license? Also, if use of that image makes it subject to wiki-lawyering with each use, then please explain why it is allowed to remain on Commons. @Atsme: Wikipedia policy is that a non free image should never be used when a free one can be used instead (...only use non-free content as a last resort.). On the Photo manipulation page the focus is on the techniques, history and rationale of photo manipulation, and the inclusion of this file there serves merely as another example amongst the many other free pictures on the page, including composite images, so the removal of this file does not adversely affect the understanding of this article. The file was not removed from Kerry Fonda 2004 election photo controversy were it is absolutely essential to the understanding of that article, and fair use of it is outlined at File:Kerry Fonda 2004 election photo.jpg, note that, in the description, justification of using this file, is only for this article. That it has a fair use license for this one article, does not mean it can be used as such in all other articles. I'm not a copyright lawyer, nor do I work with images and copyright on a professional basis, but I am a volunteer admin at Commons, and have dealt with the copyrights of free and non free works as they relate to the Wikimedia projects for a number of years now. The section Use in journalism in Photo manipulation states, Image manipulation software has effected the level of trust many viewers once had in the aphorism, the camera never lies. Images may be manipulated for fun, aesthetic reasons, or to improve the appearance of a subject but not all image manipulation is innocuous as evidenced by the Kerry Fonda 2004 election photo controversy. The image in question was a fraudulent composite image of John Kerry taken on June 13, 1971 and Jane Fonda taken in August, 1972 sharing the same platform at a 1971 antiwar rally; the latter of which carried a fake Associated Press credit with the intent to change the public's perspective of reality. The photo serves a legitimate need in the manipulation article considering there are two sections that directly address the repercussions of such manipulation. I was not previously aware that we had Kerry Fonda 2004 election photo controversy - apologies for my negligence in not noting where the photo was being used, or that it was not uploaded to Commons - but now that I've seen it, I question whether the photo controversy article meets GNG requirements per ...a topic is "notable" in Wikipedia terms only if the outside world has already "taken notice of it". As such, brief bursts of news coverage may not be sufficient signs of notability, while sustained coverage would be, as described by notability of events. It was basically a one-time news event, a private photog sued, and nothing else came of it beyond a bit of politically motivated "play" and I doubt that it's appropriate to use the encyclopedia for that purpose. I'm thinking that article should probably be merged with the Photo manipulation article as it will eliminate the "newsy" political bent, reflects more of an encyclopedic approach and serves to demonstrate such manipulations can also be political without making politics the main topic. Personally I'd be against a merge, the Kerry case in the context of photo manipulation as a whole is just one example amongst others, and argues against the keeping of a non free file, the Kerry article has been around since 2007 and I don't see much wrong with it, but don't claim ownership of either, if you want can add {{mergeto|Photo manipulation}} template to the Kerrt article and see what others think.--KTo288 (talk) 20:18, 26 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, please? I think it's worth getting input based on the GNG aspect and the potential for it setting the standard for what WP accepts despite the political slant. I shudder to think about the number of political photo manipulations there are on the internet, some of which may end up being articles if they aren't already, and all using the argument that was used for the Kerry photo.
