Image:UD Vecindario kits 2008-09.png up for deletion[edit]

Hello, this is to inform you that the image [[Image:UD Vecindario kits 2008-09.png]] has been listed for deletion. It was officially uploaded by your bot, which has full protection on its user talk, hence the posting here. Since you are away, and since the delete is absolutely uncontroversial, I see no reason to bother Jennavecia. Regards, Sven Manguard Talk 04:10, 26 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Gpntb-logo.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Gpntb-logo.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Acather96 (talk) 09:53, 2 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

List of current world boxing champions[edit]

Hello, east718, how are things? Sorry bothering you, but there's a problem on the above-mentioned list with somebody always reverting things like Rigoberto Álvarez, who is the WBA's interim champ at 154 lb., which you can see on the latest rankings from last Thursday, see: http://wbanews.com/artman/uploads/1/WBA_09-10_1.PDF , and he's also constantly putting in wrong dates and so on... Could you have a look at the history of the list and maybe give him a first warning? I don't really like to ask you, but you're the only mod I know... ;-)

Image on Wiki: Racing UK[edit]

Hi There,

The image you are using on our page for Racing UK is out of date. Can you please remove it? Also, the web address is wrong, it is actually www.racinguk.com, not racinguk.tv Finally, we are not in any way associated with the Racing Post, so can you remove that reference too?

If you have any questions do not hesitate getting back in touch

List of current world boxing champions[edit]

Hello, east718! Can you please have a look at the discussion page of the mentioned site, under point number 4, there are people who do not want the "nb" system anymore that you created a few years back. I'm absolutely 100% pro this system for the list, as nowadays, everybody is a "Super" or "Unified" or "Interim" champion, I think it would be too much to insert it in every boxer's case, the (featured) list would be overloaded... I think people are now used to our system, why change a "winning team"?

Image file removal[edit]

Hi, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Brac-logo.png is the old logo of BRAC. We changed the logo officially on 2nd February, 2010. The new logo is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:BRAC-logo.png which is already assigned on the pages where the old logo existed. Problem is when people search for BRAC logo the old logo link comes on up front resulting confusion for the visitors. So, please delete the old logo. Thanks much. NYC Meetup: Saturday, December 4[edit]

We meet outside by the trees at 5:00 PM.

Our next Wikipedia NYC Meetup is this weekend on Saturday Dec 4 at Brooklyn Museum during their awesome First Saturdays program, starting at 5 PM.

A particular highlight for the wiki crowd will be 'Seductive Subversion: Women Pop Artists, 1958–1968', and the accompanying "WikiPop" project, with specially-created Wikipedia articles on the artists displayed on iPads in the gallery.

This will be a museum touring and partying meetup, so no excuses about being a shy newbie this time. Bring a friend too!

You can add or remove your name from the New York City Meetups invite list at Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Invite list.

OTRS + wrestling images[edit]

There are a truckload of images you have uploaded of wrestling figures, which you have claimed to have OTRS permission but not provided the ticket number. My bot just replaced several of them with the commons equivalent (to which the images were moved) [1]. Can you or can Lara address this at some point, lest they get deleted for lack of permission? Your deletion of the Jolly Roger's Cookbook article, some time in 2007...[edit]

I can't find the contents of the article you have delted but I can read that you found it to be an advertisment for a textfile...

I can assure you that the text file that comes up at http://www.textfiles.com/anarchy/JOLLYROGER/ is an exact copy of the dog eared, dot matrix printed, tractor feed paper copy I received in '88.

That textfile collection is as legendary as The Anarchist's Cookbook or any other subversive intruction manual from the early '80s and thus deserves a mention on your Wiki. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 118.90.111.107 (talk) 08:52, 2 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • I am not East718 but I found your question interesting.
  • An archive of the article can be found at:
http://web.archive.org/web/20071118102602/http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jolly_Roger%27s_Cookbook
  • Some documentation of the book's fame or notoriety may increase the chances of maintaining an article at Wikipedia: the archived version neither cites any reliable sources nor asserts notability according to the community's often strict standards. See also Wikipedia:Notability (books).
  • Given the underground, countercultural, BBS-based nature of the beast, I'm having trouble thinking of ways in which this could even be possible to satisfy, other than raising a consensus of diverse contributors (does WP even allow for that?). There might not be any documentary evidence to be had - the existence and legend of the JRCB is one of the closer things to an oral history (for want of a better description) possessed by the transitional generation of the early information age. No-one who was involved with its spread particularly WANTED there to be any trace of such, after all, or to acknowledge its existence or their possession of it in a public forum.
It existed in computer-space, on discs and on dial-up servers, during a period of great change and upheaval in terms of platforms, storage formats, communications methods, general culture, etc, and when the world was far less connected than it is now. There may be enough people now who still have a computer from 10 years ago, and all their files on a memory stick bought at the same time that will still work just dandy on a modern machine (and that old computer may still be able to access and use this site); but, the same could not be said in 1997 (let alone 2007!) of systems, storage media, or online resources from 1987, which would be variously hideously and unusably out of date, so dated as to be unreadable in modern machines (or indeed, suffering physical bit-rot), or long dead and gone and no longer connected to an operating phone line, having been superceded by the WWW or just seeing their owners growing up, moving house, getting married, being arrested, dying, etc, with no concept of things existing "in the cloud", and their continued survival entirely dependent on some random having taken a copy. It was never compiled into a book or journal, never printed, never got an ISBN, never went into the Congressional Library (quite obviously!). And personal computers weren't quite as widespread a thing as they are now, still being a bit of a geek's preserve, and any kind of remote, telephonic connection far, far moreso (no facebook, no wikipedia, etc... not even tumblr - nowhere for teenage girls to log onto with their macbooks and iphones to squee over their pop idols).
That there are yet people here from around the world (even if only a few, so far - given that, as the wikipedia article was deleted 7 years ago, they have to run across it by chance on this particular talk page...) debating it the better part of 30 years after it was first written must be a mark of some kind of historical worth? Before the rest of us who know anything about it ourselves die, or at least the memory fades so much that our accounts become gradually less reliable and useful if anyone should suddenly take it upon themselves to grab a videocamera and make an arthouse documentary film that would validate all this to the standards being demanded?
All I can say is that it was definitely well known in my early years at secondary school, in the middle of suburban England, before anyone outside of university research departments had even heard of the internet. To make it from the American gen-X phreaker scene to being quietly passed around amongst close friends, on unlabelled DSDD floppies in that parochial schoolyard, is a heck of an achievement for something with no noteriety at all. I'd contend there are probably a lot of published books (and, moreover, video games) that have small side-note articles here that garnered less attention than the JR did at the time.
Also, as an aside, I'm heartened to see it being referred to in this way, as when I later went to look for it on the internet - having eventually got access to it, and having lost my old disc-based, never-printed copy of the "book" - it was only ever referred to as the Anarchist's Cookbook, with the piratical epithet having gone missing along the way.
And, PS: "advertisement for a textfile" ... what, really? Take a moment and think about the absurdity of that argument. How do you "advertise" a now-historical, not commercially published text, or gain anything from its greater publicity? 91.125.59.216 (talk) 22:05, 8 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • I hope my intervention proves informative, even if I can't offer direct help. --Hroðulf (or Hrothulf) (Talk) 15:06, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Photo police[edit]

Apparently you have now twice removed the photo of the Ash Grove (music club). I thought I made it abundantly clear that Ed Pearl owns the rights to the photo and he explicitly authorized me to upload it into Wikipedia. I have known the owner of the photo for over 40 years. Is removing this photo an example of compulsive overpolicing of photos? Do you have some specific grievance here? Perhaps you prefer the article not be illustrated. Maybe you have some problem with Ed Pearl or his Ash Grove club? Are you the same person who wanted to eliminate the whole article because this cultural space is supposedly unworthy of notice in Wikipedia? --Lastudies (talk) 22:39, 5 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

MSU Interview[edit]

Dear East718,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your nameHERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chlopeck (talkcontribs) 23:16, 14 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Anyway, come back! --MZMcBride (talk) 23:47, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Whoa, that was a while back! O_O I believe either user:Opark 77 or Jimmy started that wiki, then they did a lot of work on articles while I mainly dicked around. That was like six or seven years ago though!
Anyway I am very busy these days and have new hobbies. I started editing wp a lot because I was disabled during that time, but then I got better and lost interest, then my computer ate its own face and that was kind of the straw that broke the camel's back and led me to quit. I guess I've always kind of been like that with hobbies, but I'll try to be back sometime. :-) How are the people from the old crew doing? east718 | talk | 03:56, 2 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Abuse Filter on the Article Feedback Tool[edit]

Hey there :). You're being contacted because you're an edit filter manager, At the moment, we're developing Version 5 of the Article Feedback Tool, which you may or may not have heard about. If you haven't; for the first time, this will involve a free-text box where readers can submit comments :). Obviously, there's going to be junk, and we want to minimise that junk. To do so, we're working the Abuse Filter into the tool.

For this to work, we need people to write and maintain filters. I'd be very grateful if you could take a look at the discussion here and the attached docs, and comment and contribute! Thanks :). Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 18:14, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free rationale for File:Swheader.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Swheader.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. File permission problem with File:Twizzlers.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Twizzlers.jpg, which you've sourced to http://www.flickr.com/photos/erica_marshall/552299133/. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. Jeremiah Metcalf[edit]

I was considering creating a page for Jeremiah Metcalf, but I see that you were the admin that deleted a previous attempt. Per WP:NMMA a fighter is presumed notable if they fought at least three (3) professional fights for a top-tier MMA organization. WP:MMATIER lists Strikeforce as a top-tier MMA organization. Jeremiah Metcalf has had 3 fights in Strikeforce - one on October 7, 2006; once on November 16, 2007; and once on June 27, 2008 (see http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Jeremiah-Metcalf-16262). Therefore, it would seem that he meets WP:NMMA and thus has a presumption of meeting WP:GNG according to WP:SPORTCRIT. Before creating this page, I wanted to find out some more information on why it was deleted and if the 3 fights in Strikeforce in view of WP:NMMA were considered. RonSigPi (talk) 12:16, 12 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The article was deleted five years ago, I think back then the MMA project had only like 30 members and WP:NMMA didn't even exist. The article itself had no lede or prose, it was literally just a table with his fight history. Feel free to recreate it. east718 | talk | 17:06, 12 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on File:WCAU-TV logo.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from not the current logo so not used for identification, no third party commentary on logo, fails WP:FAIR. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 01:24, 8 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Denise Milani[edit]

Hi, I have been recently researching the Denise Milani case on Wikipedia, and saw that her article was deleted/re-created countless of times. (I read most of the discussions, including three AfD's and several heated threads on admin's noticeboard.) At that time, the deletion might have been reasonable, due to the lack of reliable sourcing. However, I noticed that the situation has changed, because in 2012 and 2013 she was covered by The Independent ([3]), The New York Times ([4]), Daily Mail ([5]), and Jezebel ([6]). In addition, she has been covered by AskMen ([7], [8]), FHM ([9]), Mandatory ([10]), and MadeMan ([11]). I think this is enough evidence to establish her notability, so I kindly request the removal of protection from her article.

I have left the same message at User:Jarry1250's talk page, but since you were the original protecting editor of the article, he referred me to you. Thanks. --Λeternus (talk) 22:53, 23 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm the original protecting admin only because my bot mass-protected pages that were on the old WP:JUPE list (this was used before the "protect from creation" feature existed). I can't find the original admin who added it to the jupe list but it was so long ago that I doubt anybody would mind if any admin unprotected it or a deletion review was opened. east718 | talk | 07:43, 24 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, since this is the case, do you mind if you unprotect it? I would want to create an article based on the sources I have listed above. --Λeternus (talk) 08:43, 24 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It's been deleted several times, including via AFD but from what I can see that it's simply because of WP:PORNBIO. There was one unsalting per [12] but it doesn't look like anyone looked at this specific article there. Given those sources you posted and the fact that the last deletion discussion was 7 years ago (!), I've unprotected the article. east718 | talk | 21:48, 22 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, and oversight[edit]

Hello! Thank you again very much for looking at the 3RR report I filed. I responded to it, letting you know of a possible oversight. It appears you missed a revert QuackGuru made in that edit (POV tag removal) because of some of his editing habits. Anyway, after nobody responded to the last report, I am especially glad to have had you take a look at it this time! Thanks again! LesVegas (talk) 17:50, 27 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

redirect page for WP:FA appropriate?[edit]

Hi, I was going to create a redirect for WP:FA as noted here, but apparently you previously deleted such a page. Is the redirect still inappropriate? I argue point 5.

However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. A cookie for you![edit]

The title article has over 75 edits, about half of which are full or partial reversions in the 24 hours since protection was lifted. In declining a request by several editors to extend protection, Admin East718 said s/he would instead block those engaged in edit warring.

I appreciate that East is working as a volunteer and do not mean to substitute my judgement for his/hers, but am confused to now find a note on his/her page that s/he is away from the Wiki for an extended time. The protection worked very well to calm an ugly situation, and was actually supported by most of the page editors. If reprotection is deemed inappropriate, could someone at least drop by and issue some warnings? Thank you Formerly 98 (talk) 20:19, 3 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Formerly 98: I'm still around, I just randomly take breaks of months to years at a time. I'm going to take a second look at the article right now and figure out how to calm the situation down. east718 | talk | 20:36, 3 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I know this is a thankless task and certainly dont mean to be critical. Formerly 98 (talk) 20:53, 3 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I've identified 3 edit wars going on at the same time:
Most of the edit warring was before I handled the RFPP request, and only one person has made more than one revert since then. Additionally, the pace of editing on the article has slowed down considerably (15 in the past 16 hours) and most of the recent edits appear to be gnomish in nature, so I don't really see a need to protect the article. If you think I made the wrong call here feel free to ask another admin to take a look, I certainly won't mind if they decide to apply protection. east718 | talk | 21:20, 3 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
OK, my impression is a little more negative than that, but I appreciate your time and effort in looking in. Thanks.Formerly 98 (talk) 21:23, 3 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Franco[edit]

Hi, Obama's "James Flacco" gaff will be in the news cycle for well into the weekend, and probably up to Monday morning. We'll surely get more "Flacco" vandalism once the protection expires in 24 hours. I would suggest extending the protection. Manul 21:10, 19 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:DavidLoiseau2.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:DavidLoiseau2.png. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Marchjuly (talk) 10:45, 25 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to subscribe to the edit filter mailing list[edit]

Hi, as a user in the edit filter manager user group we wanted to let you know about the new wikipedia-en-editfilters mailing list. As part of our recent efforts to improve the use of edit filters on the English Wikipedia it has been established as a venue for internal discussion by edit filter managers regarding private filters (those only viewable by administrators and edit filter managers) and also as a means by which non-admins can ask questions about hidden filters that wouldn't be appropriate to discuss on-wiki. As an edit filter manager we encourage you to subscribe; the more users we have in the mailing list the more useful it will be to the community. If you subscribe we will send a short email to you through Wikipedia to confirm your subscription, but let us know if you'd prefer another method of verification. I'd also like to take the opportunity to invite you to contribute to the proposed guideline for edit filter use at WP:Edit filter/Draft and the associated talk page. Thank you! Disputed non-free use rationale for File:KMGN.png[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:KMGN.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Marchjuly (talk) 05:22, 16 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
