Categories[edit]

Please stop adding articles willy-nilly to a parent category when they are already in appropriate sub-categories. See Wikipedia:Categorization for further information about how to use categories. You should also note that when an edit of yours is reverted, you must not then restore your edit, you should instead seek consensus for your change. Your edits look to me to be politically driven and not beneficial to Wikipedia. DuncanHill (talk) 10:22, 18 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

An Apology and Clarification[edit]

I'm terribly new to editing Wikipedia, and I apologize as it seems I was under the misapprehension that due to there being some prominent figures' pages set up in relation to the category. Namely, that other pages, particularly those with similar relevant categories and related template were acceptable to place there. I sincerely apologize for any irritation or confusion I may have generated and would be curious to understand how to go about the issue in question in terms of how to accomplish a better presentation of what I was trying to help with. I have reverted all your mass Conservatism Cat additions because I found them to have been inappropriate. It almost comes across as someone who is disrupting Wikipedia to illustrate a point, though I assume in good faith that this wasn't the intent. Anyway, I'm not sure what you were aiming at, but what you did was unconventional and problematic, so it had to be corrected. El_C 10:47, 18 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I understand how my edits could be unintentionally highly disruptive, and for that I also apologize. My aims were to help better map out Wikipedia's display of political philosophy in terms of providing detailed categorization. I had noticed the conservative template and category page appeared informatively thin, hence I did what I did, albeit as I now understand, irresponsibly. In curiosity, would adding pages to the template after consultation with the relevant people (i.e. admins or experienced editors) have been more advisable? D.S. Morgenbesser 6:00, 18 July 2020 (CST)
All well-thought out ideas deserve consideration through discussion. There are a couple of places on Wikipedia where centralized discussion (about changes that involves multiple pages) can take its course — from relevant Wikiprojects to the Village Pump, take your pick. Anyway, good luck with your future editing. Regards, El_C 11:06, 18 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
As you're new here, I've added a welcome to the top of this page. Please take the time to read the linked pages, as they will give you a better idea of what Wikipedia is and is not. Mjroots (talk) 17:14, 18 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
