I am new to wikipedia (not reading it of course, but everything else). Anyways, thank you for trying to get that Berko and Benson page deleted. I am actually the Benson part of that "group", but we are nothing more than a couple buddies making noise. Not an actual legit band, and we have no business being in Wikipedia. Someone that I dont know put that up, and me not realizing what to do, tried deleting it but apparently I was doing it wrong and "vandalizing" the page.

Yes, unless its reverted since I saw it, it's OK now on copyvio, based on string-searching and eyeballing the text of the article vs. the page at the URL you gave. Although I appreciate your concern for the well being of the RPI Pep Band and it's intellectual property rights, I feel you have been largely over-reactive. Did you ever consider that in being a student-run, non-profit club that it could not possibly have anything to lose by having it's website contents reproduced on a high-traffic internet enclycopedia, only to gain more publicity? I believe you may be suffering from copyright paranoia. I would also like to point out that there is no copyright label anywhere on the pepband website. I have start a talk page about the article in question. I'd like to see this cleared up ASAP as I spent a long time formatting that article and editing the information on the website into a reasonably sized article, which is still not done and would like to finish.

I'm not quite sure how my article on Howards Alias got stamped with Copyright Infringement... the band are guys from Southampton in the UK, and their official website will cease to exist come 9th January 2006 anyway. Thus, the copyright that I am supposedly infringing (in spite of the fact that I didn't copy any of it, I rewrote it in my own words) will also cease to exist. Please don't delete my article, that took me bloody ages to do.

Would it help if I got a member of Howards Alias to confirm the fact that they officially don't give a shit if people take elements of their biography to write a comprehensive article?

Also, there are no copyright details on the Howards Alias site. No 'reproduction prohibited' warnings. Nothing.

I assure you that they will not sue anyone for anything, least of all something as petty as this.

I'm not really interested in making a big thing on this, more to get a feel on your opinions. I noticed you removed the word 'important' from the first sentence of the stub article I wrote on this artist, and marked it POV. I accept that my knowledge in the field of Native American artists is limited, but I was only attempting to establish some claim of notability. Looking at painters on wikipedia, it seems acceptable to make claims of notability (Sisley - 'a very talented painter', Matisse - 'the leading french artist of the 20th century', Charles Marion Russell - 'one of the greatest painters of the American West') and I didn't think that 'important' in the genre was too hyberbolic. Based on what the link says, would rewriting it too say 'the artists work has been shown in important art museums and galleries such as blah blah' work for you, which shows the that the artist has notability from an art history and cultural perspective and not just commercially such as Thomas Kinkade which was what I was trying to get across. Thank you for your words of encouragement: they are very much appreciated. I suppose I had naively assumed that I had discovered in Wikipedia a community of like-minded individuals, sharing my disinterested commitment to clarity and historical objectivity. I was all the more unsettling, therefore, to discover that some people are motivated, it seems, more by petty spite, and others by blind political preconceptions. I'm not infallible, and I would always welcome thoughtful editing and reasoned argument; but I cannot abide what I consider to be unreasoned intellectual sabotage. Regarding the comment you left on my Talk page... Is it uncivilized to call a murderer a murderer? Is it counter-productive to identify a molestor as a molestor? My edit summary does use the words troll and disruptive, about someone who is very disruptive and about as obvious a troll as one can imagine. Most (all) of his "contributions" to Wikipedia are of this nature, and I don't see how it's counter-productive to bring it to the attention of others (which I substantiate with a link to the rfc about his behavior). what can I do? I wrote an article about Robert Henke, a musician I like, and know quite a bit about. another user seemed to think i was writing about myself, and moved the whole lot onto my own user page, telling me it was inappropriate to write about myself in the encyclopedia part of wikipedia. however, the article was about someone else, a notable musician - i just filled out an existing stub.

is this normal for people to just move stuff around? if so, how do any new articles ever get written? the article was clearly and obviously relevant - the person who moved it must have been asleep to have made the mistake they did.

when i tried to find the article again, it was gone, and with it the edit history, and there was no note that it had been moved - i was just lucky i happened to look at my own user page and saw it had been moved there. this seems pretty against the whole wiki thing of transparency in the edit process, and full histories of all edits being shown.

can you comment/help point me in the right direction to rectify this situation?
