Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

I add categories that relate the subject of the article. Any time I add a new category I do so with the expectation that it will be helpful to someone at some time in the future. I strive to accurate, descriptive, and succinct with the names of categories, but I am certain improvement is possible.

I wish it were easier to rename categories, but I digress.

If you have an issue with a (some) category(ies) I have created, viz. Single Sex Schools, Single Sex Schools in New York City, I look forward to discussing this with you further.

You haven't created "Category:Single Sex Schools" and please don't - for one thing it's wrongly capitalized and for another it appears to duplicate Category:Single-gender schools. Please read WP:Categorization etc before adding any redlinks to non-existent categories. DexDor (talk) 05:53, 7 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It's worth thinking about categories a little. For example "Category:Organizations whose fiscal year ends: 08-31" Just how useful is this likely to be? If we create categories to this level of granularity we would end up with more categories than text. For example, Charles Darwin

• People called Charles
• People called Darwin
• People called Charles Darwin
• People with initials CD
• People with initials CRD
• People with middle name Robert
• People with first names Charles Robert
• People born in February
• People born 12 February
• ...

And so on. While none of these categories is totally useless, considered as a system they are. We need a different mechanism (such as Wikidata) to ask the sort of questions that they would answer.

Currently content categories need to be a about a defining characteristic of the subjects they categorise.

I appreciate your comments and taking the time and effort to make them. Indeed, categories deserve and require a lot of thinking.

For a non-profit (and a for-profit) entity their fiscal year is a characteristic; no, it's not a defining characteristic, but it's certainly a characteristic of interest to some.

I look forward to learning more about Wikidata and making increased use of Wikidata as well. Are you an experienced Wikidata user?

Categories, I mean, characteristics, can be included as Infobox fields. Perhaps Fiscal Year belongs an Infobox. I've noticed, however, it's not uncommon to get significant opposition to adding fields to infoboxes...Wikidata to the rescue. Can you suggest some introductory Wikidata docs.

I don't think what you want is possible. The {{List subpages}} template is based on Special:PrefixIndex/User:CmdrDan, which isn't customizable in that way. If you manually maintain a list of sub-pages, I expect you could write a template or maybe a heavily customized table that would sort them in the order you want, based on magic words, but that would be a lot of work.
