About Ordering and names[edit]

Hey, Carlaude--let's avoid an Edit war! My rationale for editing:

  • Since we can't agree on cateogrization, all controversial articles keep the titles as they appear on wiki;
  • "Views of Mary Contrasted" does not put forward the general "Christian" viewpoint; I've changed it to "Teachings Contrasted";
  • To make this template encyclopedic, "Theotokos" not "Mother of God" is kept since a) it is the title of the article, b) Theotokos and Mother of God are different titles, c) it is the most precise definition of the term, d) its usage in the original Greek has crept into the English language among those interested in church history as well as by Eastern Orhodox in the US, and e) I'd like this template to not be too tilted towards Roman Catholicism;
  • A new Mary in Protestantism article up;
  • Your ordering of the Lists section alphabetically was fair--I'll give you that. I think we should apply the same rule of thumb to all controversial ordering here.

The title of the article is still under discussion and marked POV. Since it goes first as the most general. What do you have against my edit "Christian"? It does or should be a general "Christian" view".
You keep both "Theotokos" and "Mother of God"! Do you even read your own edits/undos?
"Mother of God" is not even a precise definition Theotokos-- Theotokos means "God-bearer". Read Theotokos
What does "I'd like this template to not be too tilted towards Roman Catholicism" mean?
I may have done some alphabetically sorting-- I do not recall-- but Islam should not be mixed with Christian.

  • I take issue with the "Views" article being labeled as "Christian" because it states what various communities "do not" believe, rather than what they believe, positively. Since it is comprehensive and involves multiple faith communities and contrasts between them, I've moved it to the "General" section. I think you might agree that it looks much neater now.
  • I am well aware that Theotokos is the most precise (the original, duh) rendering of that concept; "Theotokos" was what I meant by "the most precise";
  • Keeping the article/template "not too tilted towards RCC" means that Mary is "claimed" by many faith communities, and an encyclopedic index of various attributes, artifacts and teachings surrounding her ought to be "ecumenical" and inclusive.

Yes "not too tilted towards RCC" is fine. But my question was more about your meaning here-- or to put it another way-- I do not see which of your edits or undos are aiming to make it less "tilted towards RCC" and thus call for support with such a comment.
You seemed to be wanting to keep "Mother of God," for example, which is not used as much if at all by Orthodox or Protestant. Maybe you have dropped that or wanted something else instead. --Carlaude (talk) 16:20, 6 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
