Template talk:Varieties of Coca-Cola

Old discussions[edit]

I've reorganized this a little, as the alphabetical order was not necessarily the most logical for the product palette. Coke as the flagship must come first; then I ordered them in terms of commonness or release date (Cherry Coke being the first flavor variant in 1985). Then I did the same with the diet drinks; first Diet Coke and Coca-Cola Light (the name for it in most countries) then other diet colas, then flavored diet colas. We should probably put these in two rows as many products are repeated twice in regular and diet versions.

Also, the Caffeine-Free Coke family is missing. (And what about Tab?) ProhibitOnions 01:51, 27 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Another reorganization[edit]

I took out the diet Coke variants that only link to other Coke pages. I'd say that Diet Coke, Coke C2, and Coke Zero are all types of Coke in their own right, but the rest are just low calorie versions of other flavors, and they don't really need to be listed. I removed Coke M5 because it isn't a type of Coke -- it's a series of bottle designs. I added Coke Citra even though its Wikipedia article has nearly nothing in it -- it is a type of Coke and maybe someone will expand the article now that it's listed here.

I moved the discontinued Cokes to their own line, and I think each line is mostly in chronological order of first introduction. I'm not sure if Coke Citra is discontinued yet. There is apparently another variant of Coke, Coke Sakto, but I can't find much information on it and it has no wikipedia page yet. Philbert2.71828 07:35, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There is little evidence that Vanilla Coke has been discontinued in all markets. Just because it is being/has been phased out in the US and UK does not mean it is discontinued. The temple should represent a worldwide view. Cvene64 02:00, 20 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Good point. On the subject of discontinued products, it looks like Coke Citra is getting discontinued, but I haven't heard any official announcement of it. As far as I know, Raspberry Coke is gone. I just checked the New Coke page again, and it looks like it's still sold in at least a couple countries as Coke II. I guess I was premature in declaring those varieties dead. Wow. I had no idea that Coke II was still around in places. The reason I brought it up though, is because Vanilla Coke is still sold in Australia, and shows little signs of slowing down. Template looks good now. Thanks. Cvene64 10:05, 20 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think Relentless needs to be added - it is produced by the coca cola company, and therefore classifies as a CC brand... although the title of the template may not be the most appropriate. Does this article still come under georgia state?~CortalYXTalk? 15:51, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Italics[edit]

Hi, is there any reason why the Raspberry Coke is in italics? Is it to signify its demise? Budgiekiller 10:54, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yep. There used to be a separate line for every discontinued Coke, but it turns out that the only variety that's been discontinued in all markets is Raspberry Coke. Having a separate line for one variety took a lot of room, so it's in italics now. Philbert2.71828 11:57, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Coke Sango Categorization[edit]

I recently added Coca-Cola Light Sango to the template, but I was in a bit of a dilemma as to whether it should be categorized with the main group or diet-only Coca-cola varieties; the argument for the former is that, unlike Diet Coke/Coke Zero/C2, this type of Coca-cola has additional flavoring beside the standard 7X/7X substitute (in this instance, blood orange.) The argument for the latter is that, despite this, it does not currently have a non-diet variety and, therefore, must be included in the diet-only section of the template. If someone could lend a second opinion to this ambiguity it would be greatly appreciated.

I'd say the name should be changed to Coca-Cola Light Sango, and it should be moved to the diet varieties line. As it is now, I think it looks strange to have Coca-Cola Sango link to Coca-Cola Light Sango, so the link should reflect that it's only available in a diet variety. Then, with "Light" in the name, it would look better on the diet varieties line. Although there are good reasons for placing it in the non-diet line as Coca-Cola Sango, I think that moving it would make more sense for readers unfamiliar with the drink.
Now we just need an article about Coca-Cola with Lemon and this template will have every variety of Coke. Philbert2.71828 05:49, 20 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, then it seems I went against my first intuition. I'll make the necessary edits shortly. --The Once-ler 18:52, 20 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Blackjack48's reorganization[edit]

About this edit: Blackjack48 added a couple links, to List of Coca-Cola brands and MyCoke, and changed the header to The Coca-Cola Company. Firstly, I don't see the distinction between "types" and "flavors" in the first two rows, and secondly, there are a lot of links having to do with the Coca-Cola Company, and I don't think they'll all fit in this one template. In addition to List of Coca-Cola brands and MyCoke, I know of these other articles related to the Coca-Cola Company:

I propose we restore this template to the way it was, listing only varieties of Coke, and if anyone wants to keep track of other Coca-Cola-related articles, we could make another template for those articles. I think that Category:Coca-Cola should be sufficient for keeping track of the rest of the articles, but what does everyone else think? Philbert 2.71828 22:19, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, the previous heading was Varieties of Coca-Cola — I've been working on a page with that name (currently at User:Philbert2.71828/Varieties of Coca-Cola), so I could work on that page a bit more, move it out of my user space, and then change the title of this template to Varieties of Coca-Cola. Moved Coca-Cola life to normal Coke section[edit]

Moved Coca-Cola life to normal Coke section instead of leaving it at the diet-coke section, it's not low calories with only 1/3 less sugar than the original coca-cola drink. --Never stop exploring (talk) 09:59, 16 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Reorganize into current/discontinued?[edit]

I was wondering if there has ever been any discussion of reorganizing this template to distinguish between current and discontinued flavors. There are a fair number at this point, including White Coke, New Coke, and Coca-Cola Black Cherry Vanilla. It might be more informative to differentiate between those available, and those not sold in any market at this point. --Pstanton (talk) 02:46, 18 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
