Surely, if anyone would know, I assumed it would be you. So, is this rhetorical, or the beginning of a WP:TfD? As for an answer: one would think that Category talk:Cities in Queensland or Category talk:Towns in Queensland would provide some, but they don't. I actually asked the question more fully at Talk:List of cities in Australia as it's a larger question really than just this template and I wasn't really expecting a response here! It's not rhetorical, because we have a mass of articles, navboxes etc that list random sets of places as "cities". I suspect there is no real answer as town/city appear to be deprecated concepts now officially in Queensland (and I suspect more widely in Australia) due to the way our capital cities have grown to absorb other towns/cities which creates LGAs which may have the title "City" but not with the characteristics that most people infer for a city (a place with a well-defined business centre from which suburbs radiates). So my question is more about what approach would Wikipedians deem acceptable to draw the line of "in" or "out" on certain places being listed as cities. Sorry for the distraction here; I happen to have watchlisted this template and only saw the main discussion later. As for the substance of the question: I don't have an inkling of an answer, and I suspect there won't be any. The City of Westminster article made me read the introduction to City status in the United Kingdom where it states, "The holding of city status gives a settlement no special rights other than that of calling itself a city". I suspect the same applies in Oz and elsewhere, so it's the equivalent of "how long is a piece of string?" or "how many angels fit on the point of a needle?".
