fb start/end[edit]

Background

I'm having to keep reverting because the edits being made are causing breakage across every page that includes the template. This is happening because I converted the template to use fb start/end templates and did the requisite work to convert every page that included the Everton F.C. squad template.

SK has argued that the template is now non-standard as per other EPL squad templates (18 + Everton at the moment). The earliest squad template that I can find is the Arsenal one, from which all others seem to have been aped. It is my contention that the Arsenal template (and all subsequent derived works) are non standard and the Everton F.C. squad template is now the only standard squad infobox as per the WikiProject Football efforts at infobox standardisation (somewhere between 1000 and 1500 pages use this method at the moment).

Further, the version that SK has twice reverted to is broken in and of itself. It has a broken link which should point to the Everton F.C. page, Van der Meyde is being miscapitalised as per "normal" usage described in Van (Dutch) and the Lescott link is being suffixed with a | incorrectly due to a misunderstanding of the way the template works. In short, it's a bad revert.

It also leads to the creation of a nonsensical Wikitable when the fb start and end templates are being expanded around a version that already incorporates the opening and closing components of a table. To reiterate, it breaks every page it's included on.

Now, SK is, of course, most welcome to make edits to the template, but edits are different to reactionary reverts. SK, if you really want the box to be bigger, read the code and try increasing the font-size parameter from 80% to something higher. I can certainly appreciate that the template is short of perfection; for starters, the size of the first and last cells in the banner are different, the flag could use a border but that left aligns the image for some reason and if somebody can find a way to remove the |} after Lescott (displayed only on the template page, not currently showing on pages that include the template) without introducing an extra <br /> at the bottom of the box, that would also be great. veila# 11:21, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

standard?[edit]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Football_%28soccer%29_navigational_boxes_%28standardized%29

Note how no football squads are listed.

Checked several countries England, Germany, Holland, Australia. No Club teams use this fb template so neither should Everton http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Football_squad_templates The Wikiproject football is simply not ready to work on squad templates as it squashes them making them too tall. If you are confident that it is, please edit all of the squad templates English or otherwise (club teams AND National teams) although you will get people reverting them due to the described squashing. additional: here are two screen dumps

1. My reverted template (links fixed van to Van) http://img463.imageshack.us/img463/1796/withnofb7de.jpg (no broken page clearly)

2. My reverted template on a page where you encased it in fb templates http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/2641/withfb7cb.jpg (note it squashes the template and BREAKS it)

No-one else has had such a huge problem with this template it is purely fine tuning like Slumgum (who invented squad templates). This is exactly like all club templates from all countries. No breaks at all. I would also strongly suddest you spoke to him about the wikiproject football in relation to squad templates. SenorKristobbal 15:48, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have editted the end of the box so it ends better. I found on Beattie's page as I was removing the fbs that it either merged to another box or left a fat white bit at the bottom of the box. This is fixed now. SenorKristobbal 16:33, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
