Request for horizontal version[edit]

A horizontal version of this template should be created for placement at the foot of the page. There is no reason why, for example, a template containing lists of recent municipal elections for three large cites need appear at the top of the page, as in United States Senate election in Ohio, 1898. The subjects are far afield from each other. WP:NAVBOX suggests that a location at the end of the article would be better. Can someone experienced in template creation make such a version, or convert this one? Kablammo (talk) 15:12, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see what the problem with current version is. It certainly doesn't take a lot of real estate on any page. Vertical presentation seems to work better than horizontal for this particular group of articles as far as I am concerned. Also, some of these lists are kind of long, and navboxes at bottom would get lost.

Two points:
  • A succession of navboxes at the top may not be lost, but will both damage the appearance and promote the least useful parts of an article to the most prominent. Navboxes and other templates seem to increase with time, and if placed at the top will be a distraction.
  • From WP:NAVBOX:

Navigation templates located in the top-right corner of articles (sometimes called a "sidebar" or "part of a series" template) should be treated with special attention, because they are so prominently displayed to readers. The collection of articles in a sidebar template should be fairly tightly related, and the template should meet most or all of the preceding guidelines. If the articles are not tightly related, a footer template (located at the bottom of the article) may be more appropriate.

I don't think 21st-century municipal elections in Columbus are "tightly related" to a 19th-century legislative election of a US senator.
The section linked by WP:NAVBOX contains a good discussion of the questions at issue here. Regards, Kablammo (talk) 22:30, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
If you are going to create a horizontal navbox, please leave this template alone and give navbox a slightly different name. That way, options are still available.
