old comments[edit]

Shouldn't this be extended back into the nineteenth century? Mackensen (talk) 13:33, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • The Conservative Party didn’t have a formal leader until 1922. Philip Stevens 13:43, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • Not formally, no, but there's no confusion about who was overall leader from about 1834 onwards. Mackensen (talk) 13:49, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
      • OK then, I've added overall leader of the party from 1834-1922. Philip Stevens 14:53, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lords leaders who were Liberal Unionists[edit]

The inclusion of Spencer Cavendish, 8th Duke of Devonshire and Henry Petty-Fitzmaurice, 5th Marquess of Lansdowne is slightly complicated as neither were actually members of the Conservative Party when they first led the Lords, but were members of the Liberal Unionist Party. Although it was in alliance with the Conservative Party did not officially merge with it until 1911, so this perhaps could/should be noted somehow. Dunarc (talk) 18:35, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
