Why does this page not show flag icons, as used in several other articles? --Matthead 08:20, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

1) Could we maybe use color codes to display a country's colors, and in a common order? This seems like it would make things clearer, plus would allow us to specify more distinct shades (Scotland uses a much lighter blue than most, for example). Also, several countries have several distinct 'packages' of colors, that are always used together, and cannot be interchanged.

2) Would it be a good idea to separate the table into, for instance, sporting colors and political colors (and perhaps heraldic colors)? An Australian, for example, would be unlikely to show up to a political rally sporting the Green & Gold (unless maybe they were with the Greens) but equally unlikely to go to a cricket or soccer match in either Blue/Gold or Red/White/Blue.

Sounds like good ideas to me, but it might be too much work and too much information to put in this single list. Many countries have different color shemes in different sports, e.g. It might perhaps be better to make links to specific articles where the use of national colours for each country could be elaborated on. Just look at an article like British racing green, you couldn't possibly put all that information in a single line in this list, but still it is very interesting and almost all of the information on that page is necessary to understand why the United Kingdom uses green as its national color in auto racing. The reference to the australia.gov.au (a government's website and therefore reliable) states that "Australia's national colours, green and gold, were popular and well loved by Australians long before they were officially proclaimed by the Governor-General on 19 April 1984." So why are Australia primary colours in this article still red, white and blue? An old revision cited "Myrtle green and wattle gold". Tryst Nguyen (talk) 04:15, 12 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Just wondering if my tingling pedantic grammar senses are correct.

One doesn't need a comma in front of and when listing the colours of 3+

eg Red, White and Blue

rather then

Red, White, and Blue

This is the oxford comma debate, and both ways are acceptable. Personally, I love oxford commas

The whole of the article has been tagged for not citing any references or sources, yet the United Kingdom colours section has been singled out to have "[citation needed]". I've homed in on that section as it's been part of a debate elsewhere. Meanwhile the Irish entry lists St. Patrick's blue as a secondary colour and "Green, white and orange" as primary. I have put the national colours of supranational organisations like the UN and the EU, because these organisations use colours like national colours when they need an identifier. You only need to think of the blue helmets and the flags of associated organisations with the UN blue. Also the blue and yellow of the EU flag that is used with anything European like the blue EHIC, or the “Blue Card” for skilled immigration. 159753 (talk) 14:16, 10 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, so {‌{refimprove|date=April 2016}‌} has been up for 2½ years, but the fundamental problems of the article have not been addressed. Shouldn’t we finally go ahead and delete all unsourced/OR content? If nothing else, those alleged “secondary national colors”, which in almost all cases are nothing more than commonly used color combinations used by some national sports teams, often in a single sport. This does not make “national colors.” The example given for Germany appears to be especially contrived. Yes, white and black (not black and white, by the way) have long been used as kit colors by the German national soccer team. But virtually no other German national German team uses this combination. Many more use white with a narrow red band. So is white, with a tiny bit of red, now a “secondary national color” of Germany? In addition, green has been falling out of favor as a secondary color for the German national soccer team. Bottom line, no-one considers white-and-black (not to mention green) as national German colors in any context other than soccer/association football.
