Pedro J. Soma (born June 30, 2006) is an American professional soccer player currently playing as a midfielder for Spanish side Cornellà.

Early life[edit]

Soma was born in Boca Raton, Florida to a Brazilian mother and American father and was raised in nearby Coconut Creek.[2]

Club career[edit]

Having first taken an interest in football at a very young age, he joined a local academy in Florida; Boca Raton Juniors Soccer Club, Director Anthony Olischar, Coach Guilherme Ceretta; (Professional Referee) Champions Sting Cup - Sunrise 2016; after move named Boca United (now called South Florida Football Academy) at the age of six or seven.[2] In October 2018, he was offered the chance to go on a student exchange program to Barcelona, Spain, and he played grassroots football there for two years before being scouted by professional side Cornellà.[2] He has credited fellow American soccer players Adrian Gill and Diego Kochen, both in the academy of Barcelona, for helping him settle in the region, and describes the latter as his best friend.[2]

Having made his debut in the Primera Federación with Cornellà, he began to attract the attention of Barcelona, with manager Xavi reportedly having told president Joan Laporta that he wishes to sign the midfielder.[3][4]

International career[edit]

Soma received his first call-up to the United States youth system in January 2022, and having impressed in both the January training camp and a trip to South America in March, he was one of the stand-out players in a UEFA Under-16 Development Tournament held in May of the same year.[2][5] Called up again for the 2023 CONCACAF U-17 Championship, Soma helped the United States reach the final of the competition, but despite scoring, he could not prevent his side losing 3–1 to Mexico in the final match.[2][6]
