From Wikipedia the free encyclopedia
Maidstone and Malling is a proposed constituency of the House of Commons in the UK Parliament.[1] Further to the completion of the 2023 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies, it will first be contested at the next general election.
Boundaries[edit]
The constituency will be composed of the following (as they existed on 1 December 2020):
- The Borough of Maidstone wards of: Allington; Barming and Teston; Bridge; East; Fant; Heath; High Street; North; South.
- The Borough of Tonbridge and Malling wards of: Aylesford South; Ditton; East Malling; Kings Hill; West Malling and Leybourne.[2]
It will comprise the following areas of Kent:
- Approximately 67% of the current Maidstone and The Weald seat,[3] mainly comprising the town of Maidstone itself
- The Tonbridge and Malling Borough wards of Aylesford South and Ditton from Chatham and Aylesford
- The Tonbridge and Malling Borough wards of East Malling, Kings Hill, and West Malling and Leybourne from Tonbridge and Malling (to be renamed Tonbridge)[4]
Following a local government boundary review in Tonbridge and Malling which came into effect in May 2023,[5][6] the constituency will now comprise the following from the next general election:
- The Borough of Maidstone wards of: Allington; Barming and Teston; Bridge; East; Fant; Heath; High Street; North; South.
- The Borough of Tonbridge and Malling wards of: Aylesford North & North Downs (small part); Aylesford South & Ditton; Birling, Leybourne & Ryarsh (majority); East Malling, West Malling & Offham (most); Kings Hill.[7]
Constituency profile[edit]
Electoral Calculus characterises the proposed seat as "Strong Right", with right-wing economic and social views, high home ownership levels and strong support for Brexit.[4]
