Filter (stylized as FILTER) was an entertainment magazine on American music that was founded in summer of 2002.[1] It featured commentary and photos of musicians and filmmakers, ranging from actors to writers and directors. The magazine also included reviews of upcoming albums and DVDs.
The magazine was published five times a year, on a seasonal basis. The publication typically focused on indie music in its reporting, while also covering established artists in long-form interviews.
The magazine was published by Alan Miller and Alan Sartirana. The editor-in-chief was Pat McGuire, the associate editor was Breanna Murphy, and the layout designer was Melissa Simonian.
The magazine initiated the seasonal festival Culture Collide, which is now produced by founder Alan Miller. After Miller and Sartirana parted ways in 2014, Sartirana, McGuire, and Simonian continued with many of the FILTER staff to found FLOOD Magazine, a quarterly entertainment publication.[2]
