This graph image could be re-created using vector graphics as an SVG file. This has several advantages; see Commons:Media for cleanup for more information. If an SVG form of this image is available, please upload it and afterwards replace this template with {{vector version available|new image name}}.

It is recommended to name the SVG file “U.S. Trade Deficit Dollars and percentage GDP.svg”—then the template Vector version available (or Vva) does not need the new image name parameter.
Description
English: U.S. Trade Deficit Dollars and % GDP

Source Data

  1. Download the spreadsheets indicated on these pages for the information.
  2. I have calculated % GDP by averaging the four quarters of the year presented in the BEA data to arrive at the GDP amount (denominator).
  3. The GDP data is presented as current dollars. However, it is unclear if the current account data is in current dollars. However, the Bernanke speech cited above (first paragraphs) indicates these numbers are very close to what he is citing, so I am assuming these are current dollars. If you have a current account data source that states clearly it is current dollars, let me know and I will revisit the computation.
