Description
English: Shamanism is a very general (sometimes even debated) concept, comprising mediator-role figures of several different cultures, with great diversity. That is why this image is a tableau. It is created to be a lead image of Wikipedia's Shamanism article.

The montage is made with GIMP out of the four Wikimedia Commons images:

  • Yupik shaman in Nushagak, licensed PD-old (Eskimo)
  • Sami shaman ("noaide"), licensed PD-old (Saami)
  • Altai Kizhi or Khakas shaman, licensed PD-old (Altai)
  • Shaman with his paraphernalia, licensed PD-US (Goldes)
Thus, one of the member images is licensed more restrictively (PD-US) than the others (PD-old). This most restrictive licensing (PD-US) is given to the resulting montage.
Author GIMPed together by Physis. The descriptions of the "member images" can be seen at their own description pages. Three of them are licensed in public domain because of being old, but one of them is licensed in a more restrictive way (public domain in the U.S.A.), thus, this is chosen to form the license of the resulting montage.

Public domain
Public domain
This media file is in the public domain in the United States. This applies to U.S. works where the copyright has expired, often because its first publication occurred prior to January 1, 1929, and if not then due to lack of notice or renewal. See this page for further explanation.

United States
United States
This image might not be in the public domain outside of the United States; this especially applies in the countries and areas that do not apply the rule of the shorter term for US works, such as Canada, Mainland China (not Hong Kong or Macao), Germany, Mexico, and Switzerland. The creator and year of publication are essential information and must be provided. See Wikipedia:Public domain and Wikipedia:Copyrights for more details.
Public domain

This work is in the public domain in its country of origin and other countries and areas where the copyright term is the author's life plus 70 years or fewer.

You must also include a United States public domain tag to indicate why this work is in the public domain in the United States. Note that a few countries have copyright terms longer than 70 years: Mexico has 100 years, Jamaica has 95 years, Colombia has 80 years, and Guatemala and Samoa have 75 years. This image may not be in the public domain in these countries, which moreover do not implement the rule of the shorter term. Honduras has a general copyright term of 75 years, but it does implement the rule of the shorter term. Copyright may extend on works created by French who died for France in World War II (more information), Russians who served in the Eastern Front of World War II (known as the Great Patriotic War in Russia) and posthumously rehabilitated victims of Soviet repressions (more information).

Other versions
Shaman tableau, the saturation at the image about the Altai Kizhi woman is reduced to zero
This partially colorful image is a more original variant of a further-processed variant. Three of the member images are BW, but the one about the Altai Kizhi / Khakas shaman woman is originally colorful on the Russian postcard. The process was reducing saturation to zero.
