Description
English: Mast radiator broadcasting antenna with a "capacity hat" at the top for "electrical lengthening". Radio mast of the medium wave transmitter in Hirschlanden, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, of the Deutsche Telekom AG for the AFN. The screen of wires supported by the four radial arms at the top of the antenna acted as a capacitor plate, with the ground as the other plate. Each cycle of the alternating current radio signal, current flows in and out of the hat, just as if the tower continued above it. This serves to increase the current in the top part of the antenna, increasing the radiated power, as if the tower was longer.
