English: Detail of the Monument to the Portuguese Discoveries showing the mathematician and cosmographer Pedro Nunes with an armillary sphere. To his left, Jácome de Maiorca (cosmographer and chart maker) and Pero Escobar (navigator); to his right, Pêro de Alenquer (navigator), Gil Eanes (navigator) and João Gonçalves Zarco (navigator). The monument was built in 1960 and was conceived by Cottinelli Telmo (architecture) and Leopoldo de Almeida (sculptures)

À sa gauche, Jehuda Cresques (cosmographe et cartographe) et Pedro de Escobar (navigateur); à sa droite, Pêro de Alenquer (navigateur), Gil Eanes (navigateur) et João Gonçalves Zarco (navigateur).
