Elina Hsiung is a Chinese Indian dancer, model and actress. She is best known for her work as a dancer and actor in the music videos for “El Farsante (Remix)” by Ozuna featuring Romeo Santos and “Runaway” by Sebastián Yatra featuring Daddy Yankee, Natti Natasha & Jonas Brothers which have received over 1.8 billion and 375 million views on YouTube, respectively.
Early life and education[edit]
Hsiung was born to James Andrew Hsiung and Jean Hsiung in Mumbai, India. At an early age, Hsiung had a passion for dancing. At the age of nine, Hsiung choreographed her first routine to the song “Larger Than Life” by The Backstreet Boys.[1] When Hsiung told her parents that she wanted to pursue dancing as a career, her parents did not take her dance as a serious profession at first and told Hsiung that she should just do it for fun as a hobby.[2] After seeing how dedicated Hsiung was to the craft, they became more open-minded and supportive of their daughter. During her time in Mumbai, Hsiung trained under Ashley Lobo at The Danceworx Performing Arts Academy.[3] In 2013, she auditioned for and was accepted to The Ailey School in New York City.
Hsiung completed her formal education with an undergraduate degree in Mass Media from R. D. National College and a master's degree in Fashion Merchandising and Retail Management from LIM College in 2016.
Career[edit]
In 2011, Hsiung helped Ashley Lobo with the choreography for the film Pyaar Ka Punchnama. The film went on to become a sleeper hit in India grossing over ₹175 million (US$2.2 million) at the box office. In 2014, she made her Bollywood debut as a dancing contestant in the movie One by Two directed by Devika Bhagat.
Hsiung signed with Model Management Group (MMG) in 2017. In the same year, she made an appearance in the music video for Ozuna's “El Farsante (Remix)” which as of 2023, has received over 1.8 billion views on YouTube. She also appeared as a dancer in the music video for “Runaway” by Sebastián Yatra featuring Daddy Yankee, Natti Natasha & Jonas Brothers. The music video was directed by Daniel Duran and filmed in NYC.
Hsiung has done work as a model for Tuborg Beer, Gold's Gym and Sterling Reserve Whiskey and has also been published in Bleu Magazine and Vogue India.[1]
In addition to dancing in the music video for Runaway, Hsiung has done dance work together with Lauren Gottlieb, Kunwar Amar and Deepti Sati.[4]
