BBIS Berlin Brandenburg International School is an IB World School. The school was established 1990 in Potsdam, Germany,[2] but is now located in Kleinmachnow, between Berlin and Potsdam, 17 kilometres (11 mi) to Berlin (Mitte) and 20 kilometres (12 mi) to Potsdam. English is the language of instruction at BBIS, meaning that all subjects, including mathematics, drama, humanities, design technology, music, visual art, etc. are taught in English. The school is divided into Early Education, Primary and Secondary School. BBIS Berlin Brandenburg International School is led by Mark Hardeman (CEO), Burkhard Dolata (CFO). BBIS is home to around 890 students.[3]

Programs[edit]

Every year, BBIS welcomes around 810 day students and around 80 boarding students, from 3 to 19 years of age. These students spend their days developing invaluable, life-long skills like critical thinking, languages and intercultural competencies across our early education, primary and secondary areas:

  • From ages 3-6, children join our early education community and learn within the framework of the IB Primary Years Programme
  • From ages 6-11, students join Grades 1 to 5 to pursue the IB Primary Years Programme
  • From ages 11-19, students join our secondary school to pursue the IB Middle Years Programme and IB Diploma Programme

Facilities[edit]

Ideally located in a forested area on the southwest border of Berlin, the spacious and peaceful 360,000 sqm campus is the ideal setting for growth and discovery.

Spread across five spacious buildings, the classrooms are modern, comfortable and well-equipped to cater for a broad range of learning needs. The BBIS campus includes:

  • Large classrooms in both the Primary and Secondary Schools

From track and field to tennis, badminton to basketball, students can pursue their favourite sports at BBIS. Sports facilities include:

A full-size artificial-turf field – The sports field features a six-lane running track, a sand court for beach volleyball, basketball courts, plus facilities for high and long jump, discus and shot put. With floodlights and bleachers that can hold 820 spectators.

The BBIS Sports Hall – With three separate gymnasiums, audience seating and a fitness room, our multipurpose sports hall can be combined into one large space for basketball, volleyball, handball, indoor soccer and tennis. There's a climbing wall, rings, climbing ropes, wall bars and other professional-quality sports equipment, too. Beyond sport and fitness, the hall can also be used as an auditorium, theatre and concert hall.
