The Battle of Ghanaur was fought between Baghel Singh's Sikh forces and Shah Alam II's Mughal forces.[1][2]
Battle[edit]
According to Sikh Sources, the Mughal Emperor Shah Alam II send a force of 10,000–100,000 to chastise the Sikhs.[2][3] The force was commanded by Majad-Ud-Daula. Baghel Singh was known to be a great strategist and statesman. The Sikhs out-maneuvered the entire army at Ghanaur, Patiala. The Mughal forces eventually surrendered to the Sikhs.[4][1]

Apart from being a brave warrior, Bhai Baghel Singh was a strategist and statesman who succeeded in forcing the then Delhi rulers into submission in the battle at Ghanaur, near Patiala in 1778.

In 1778, the Mughal emperor Shah Alam II sent an estimated army of 100,000 soldiers to chastise the Sikhs. The Mughal force was commanded by the wazir Nawab Majad ud Daula under the banner of the crown prince. In addition to being a brave warrior, Baghel Singh was a sharp strategist and statesman. He was able to out-manoeuvre the strong Mughal army in the battle of Ghanaur, near Patiala city. As a result of the victory, the huge Mughal army surrendered before Baghel Singh's forces.

In a paper read out on the occasion, the Dal Khalsa mentioned that apart from being a brave warrior, Bhai Baghel Singh was a strategist and statesman who was able to force the then Delhi rulers into submission in the battle at Ghanaur, near Patiala in 1778. As a result of this victory, one lakh Mughal forces surrendered before the Khalsa Panth.
