Asuncion, also known as Pacu, is a barangay in the component city of Maasin, Southern Leyte in the Philippines. The barangay holds the council of the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of the Philippines for Southern Leyte province. It also holds an office for the Department of Environment and Natural Resources for Maasin.[3]

Asuncion is an urban barangay[5] which is part of Maasin City's Sixth District or District 6[1] and it borders the adjacent barangays of Barangay Mambajao to the west, Barangay Canturing to the north, Barangay Isagani to the east, and the Bohol Sea to the south.[6][7]
History[edit]
Long ago the place of Asuncion is not yet Asuncion, it was just simply called as "Pacu".It was named last 70 years as Asuncion because majority of the people living in this place are Roman Catholic, they devoted Mother Mary of Asuncion. Supposed date of the anniversary of Brgy. Asuncion was the date of the birthday of Our Beloved Mother Mary but the priest of the place changed the date to have their own fiesta.
This barangay was one of the popular locations of different provincial events like the Founding Anniversary of Southern Leyte, Girls Scout Camp etc. They say that Asuncion had a big population because of a wide space. This barangay is a quite popular barangay in Maasin City.[3]

According to the 2020 Census, the barangay has a total population of 5,063 people making it the 2nd most populated barangay in Maasin City.[5][8]
