| الوصف | English: Digitally restored and enhanced image of the first edition cover for F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel The Beautiful and Damned (1922). The book's cover art by illustrator W. E. Hill was first published in March 1922; hence, the cover art resides in the public domain in the United States because it was published (or registered with the U.S. Copyright Office) before January 1, 1926. Furthermore, any mechanical scans/photocopies of the cover likewise reside in the public domain as they do not qualify for independent copyright protection. There are several different covers for The Beautiful and the Damned which are often identified as "the first edition." One of these covers is white and red. However, Zelda Fitzgerald's 1922 article "Friend Husband's Latest" clearly identifies the jacket of the first edition as orange as opposed to white.
