Should I resubmit my draft?[edit]

Greetings Timtempleton I submitted draft (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Chetu) which was rejected. I revisited it today, and in it's history, I saw that you have edited it. Much appreciated. Should I resubmit the draft, as before you another editor has edited as well? or should I further work on it?

@Zed J Alexander: I'm not seeing enough significant independent coverage in the article or with a simple Google search to demonstrate notability. If you remove the repurposed press releases and passing mentions, there's very little independent coverage of the company left. If you can find the best two in-depth profiles of the company in the media, post them here and I can review. The item you used to source the date the company was founded is a press release issued by the company - it's not independent. The awards and accolades are minor, as is the charitable donation they made. None of those items suggest that the company is notable enough to have an article. You are a brand new editor and have taken on one of the hardest tasks on Wikipedia. I recommend you take the time to read WP:YOURFIRSTARTICLE to save yourself further frustration. And others have commented on your talk page that your edits suggest you have a conflict of interest. You face a long uphill climb from here. (Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four keyboard tildes like this: ~~~~. Or, you can use the [ reply ] button, which automatically signs posts.) @Timtempleton:Thanks. I will look into the sources. And I agree that I have taken a tougher task and I was feeling much frustrated. However, ever since, the realization has dawned on me that editors, here, are trying to help me rather than accusing me, I am learning a lot more, which I might not have, if I didn't submitted the draft because of my idiocy.
I much appreciate all of you and your help. I will keep improving.
Timtempleton following are the links I could muster.

@Zed J Alexander: The first link is a press release. While those can be used sparingly to source non-controversial information, they do not add to notability, since any company can pay to issue a release, and it says whatever they want it to say. The second source is about a real estate transaction, but not about the company. The last source is about a fine levied on the company for using pirated software. In these three sources, there's very little information that can be used to build a good article. I think if you read WP:YOURFIRSTARTICLE, you'll decide that the task you've chosen is too difficult for now. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 20:46, 6 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Timtempleton: ok. Thanks for the help. I will do it. Zed J Alexander (talk) 21:02, 6 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Carvana Article[edit]

Thanks (I think) for the edit notice, however I don't have any interest in Carvana aside from the seemingly advertising-ish and somewhat unctuous slanted article without any mention of negative (legitimate) facts. The statement on its revenue as an affinity with corporate sophistry. With respect to outdated information,

https://www.nasdaq.com/articles/estimating-the-fair-value-of-carvana-co.-nyse%3Acvna-2021-07-13

which is recent and is fair in its underlying analysis

https://www.forbes.com/sites/greatspeculations/2021/03/22/why-uber-doordash-and-carvana-got-riskier-post-earnings/ or even

https://www.barrons.com/articles/take-profits-in-used-car-seller-carvana-buy-shift-and-vroom-instead-analyst-says-51624981662

I just thought context mattered not just PR spin, however in the end it doesn't matter much to me, because like the articles should strive to be it's a neutral issue and no I was not encouraging risky financial speculation as shorting a stock. Thanks for the heads-up and GF, I was never intending to spin anything.

@KansasC785: Thanks for responding so quickly. It's not about PR spin. The point is more that we want to avoid any bias in either direction. I could cherry pick articles that supported an even higher valuation, and then the article (and every other business article) becomes a messy battlefield for stock speculators. September 2021 Guild of Copy Editors newsletter[edit]

Guild of Copy Editors September 2021 Newsletter

Hello and welcome to the September GOCE newsletter, a brief update of Guild activities since June 2021.

                 Current and upcoming events

September Drive: Our current backlog-elimination drive is open until 23:59 on 30 September (UTC) and is open to all copy editors. Sign up today!

Drive and Blitz reports

June Blitz: From 20 to 26 June, 6 participating editors claimed 16 copy edits, focusing on requests and articles tagged in March and April. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

July Drive: Almost 575,000 words of articles were copy edited for this event. Of the 24 people who signed up, 18 copyedited at least one article. Final results and awards are listed here.

August Blitz: From 15 to 21 August, we copy edited articles tagged in April and May 2021 and requests. 9 participating editors completed 17 copy edits on the blitz. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

Other news

June election: Jonesey95 was chosen to continue as lead coordinator, assisted by Dhtwiki, Tenryuu, and Miniapolis.

New maintenance template added to our project scope: After a short discussion in June, we added {{cleanup tense}} to the list of maintenance templates that adds articles to the Guild's copy editing backlog categories. This change added 198 articles, spread over 97 months of backlog, to our queue. We processed all of those articles except for those from the three or four most recent months during the July backlog elimination drive (Here's a link to a "tense" discussion during the drive).

Progress report: As of 18:26, 24 September 2021 (UTC), GOCE copyeditors have processed 468 requests since 1 January and there were 60 requests awaiting completion on the Requests page. The backlog of articles tagged for copy-editing stood at 433 (see monthly progress graph above).

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators Jonesey95, Dhtwiki, Tenryuu, and Miniapolis.

Request for help[edit]

Hello Timtempleton

I am the subject of a page called John T. Madden. In short, you assisted me earlier when I was eager to have the page permanently deleted. The trolls are back and are shaming me again. Can you advise for the deletion process. I do not belong here in wiki and the shaming is taking its toll. I appreciate your consideration of this.

G4L21qtQD (talk) 14:55, 6 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@G4L21qtQD: I nominated the article for deletion. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/John T. Madden (2nd nomination) After I nominated it, I remembered that there was an earlier discussion that was closed as no consensus. There may not be a different result, except we can request to semi-protect the article to keep the contentious material from being added back. In the meantime, in the interest of full transparency, you should disclose your connection on your user page or on the article talk page. See WP:DCOI. Ichon[edit]

Hi Tim. Thanks for your interest in the draft Ichon article. I'm intrigued by your suggestion that I try to qualify the article under WP:GNG. Can you explain a little more clearly what I should put on the article's talk page? Would I write something like this?

I believe Ichon meets the requirements for WP:GNG. Ichon has been the specific subject of articles by reliable, general-interest and special-interest publications including Reuters, La Presse (the largest French-language newspaper in Canada), Le Temps (the largest French-language newspaper in Switzerland) and GQ France magazine (where he was featured on the cover in February, 2021).
I am nominating Ichon under WP:GNG because his celebrity derives as much from his fashion sensibility and partnerships with fashion houses, as from his music.

Thanks for your advice, Tim!

Jayintheusa (talk) 01:48, 13 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Jayintheusa: As far as I know, we don't really have a way to nominate an article under a specific notability guideline. We just need to show in the defense that the person meets it. Most skilled reviewers should know this, but if someone is looking for musician coverage, they may miss the other info. It helps if the sourcing clearly shows the notability, which is why I suggested adding the other source. The best place to have a discussion would be on the draft article talk page, or if it's declined again, you can go to Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Help desk. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 01:58, 13 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

December 2021 GOCE Newsletter[edit]

Guild of Copy Editors December 2021 Newsletter

Hello and welcome to the December GOCE newsletter, a brief update of Guild activities since September 2021.

                 Current and upcoming events

Election time: Our end-of-year election of coordinators opened for nominations on 1 December and will close on 15 December at 23:59 (UTC). Voting opens at 00:01 the following day and will continue until 31 December at 23:59, just before "Auld Lang Syne". Coordinators normally serve a six-month term and are elected on an approval basis. Self-nominations are welcome. If you've thought of helping out at the Guild, or know of another editor who would make a good coordinator, please consider standing for election or nominating them here.

December Blitz: We have scheduled a week-long copy-editing blitz for 12 to 18 December. Sign up now!

Drive and Blitz reports

September Drive: Almost 400,000 words of articles were copy edited for this event. Of the 27 people who signed up, 21 copyedited at least one article. Final results and awards are listed here.

October Blitz: From 17 to 23 October, we copy edited articles tagged in May and June 2021 and requests. 8 participating editors completed 26 copy edits on the blitz. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

November Drive: Over 350,000 words of articles were copy edited for this event. Of the 21 people who signed up, 14 copyedited at least one article. Final results and awards are listed here.

Other news

It is with great sadness that we report the death on 19 November of Twofingered Typist, who was active with the Guild almost daily for the past several years. His contributions long exceeded the thresholds for the Guild's highest awards, and he had a hand in innumerable good and featured article promotions as a willing collaborator. Twofingered Typist also served as a Guild coordinator from July 2019 to June 2021. He is sorely missed by the Wikipedia community.

Progress report: As of 30 November, GOCE copyeditors have completed 619 requests in 2021 and there were 51 requests awaiting completion on the Requests page. The backlog stood at 946 articles tagged for copy-editing (see monthly progress graph above).

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators Jonesey95, Dhtwiki, Tenryuu, and Miniapolis.

Hi Tim – I work with the investment firm Felicis and noticed you created the Felicis Ventures article. They changed their logo so I was wondering if I could trouble you to replace the old logo. Is there a way I can send it to you? Thanks for your help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:646:180:85C0:313C:4CC7:7971:B951 (talk) 20:45, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@2601:646:180:85C0:313C:4CC7:7971:B951:  Done I just pulled it from your web site. Low res is better. I noticed that Google is pulling your old logo from Pitchbook - you might want to go to your Pitchbook profile page and submit an update request, in case Google doesn't pull the correct logo from your article. Thanks so much for your comment at Teahouse! The AfD is still underway, although it's still quite finely balanced in theory as some people keep coming in and making the same 'keep' point (i.e. he's in the Who's Who) while those for delete are quoting policies and providing coherent arguments. I imagine this is how it often goes and I guess it will be up to the closing admin. All the best, Emmentalist (talk) 11:17, 21 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Response to your comment on my article![edit]

Hi! It looks like my message got archived, but you sent the following response to me on the teahouse:

"I took a quick look and think the draft still reads like an essay. The biggest issue is that none of the info about envelope encryption is sourced. You describe the technique in your own words, but link to commercial cloud computing company sites, a paywalled research paper, and an online glossary for a related term. You'll need sufficient sourcing to demonstrate that the term is significant enough for a standalone article. I googled envelope encryption to see if I could find some technical articles about the term, and was unsuccessful. You're probably better off merging the info to encryption, such as to Encryption#Uses. Then you need fewer sources to demonstrate notability."

Sorry for nooby formatting, as always. I had a piece of feedback that may speak to the cultural differences between cryptography and other fields you may be more familiar with. Maybe you will find it interesting. Notably: the research paper I linked was actually open-access (the link has access to a pdf of the paper), which is basically standard in math/computer science/cryptography. If I remember correctly, many other fields of science don't have this culture. — Preceding unsigned comment added by A40585 (talkcontribs) 18:47, 30 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Features for new users coming soon (and mentors, like you, wanted!)[edit]

Hello. As you're currently listed as a host at the Teahouse, I wanted to make sure you're aware of the imminent rollout of new Growth Team Features which every new account will be getting by default. Each users will soon see a new 'Homepage' tab next to their User page. It contains two main elements which might impact on your involvement - and you'd be welcome to get involved and help out directly with one of them.

  • Firstly, they will be offered a range of 'suggested edits', and encouraged to make simple improvements to pages that interest them. (Being aware of this feature would be helpful for all Teahouse hosts if you're likely to offer advice on tasks for them to start out doing.)
  • There's also a 'Your impact' box to show them how many people have seen the pages they've just edited.
  • Finally, each new user is randomly assigned a 'mentor' from a list of friendly, experienced editors, like yourself. If they get stuck, they can ask a question directly to them via a Your mentor box, and hopefully get a swift, friendly answer from that mentor. Currently, this feature is given to 2% of new users, but it's set to increase to around 10% in the very near future.

To spread the load on our current list of around 65 mentors, I'm reaching out to ask if you'd like to help out and sign up as one? The workload is relatively small; User Panini! reports receiving four questions a month, on average, all of which were simple ones of the type we already get at the Teahouse, whilst I've had just one in the last 3 weeks. To view a list of every question asked of all mentors over the last 14 days, click here.

If becoming a mentor and being available to help new users on their first few days here interests you - just as have done at the Teahouse in the past - then please consider signing up at Growth Team features/Mentor list. But please only do so if you are genuinely willing to be available to help. Existing users can already 'opt-in' to seeing the Newcomer Homepage features via their Preferences.

Request for help[edit]

Thank you for replying at the help desk. The article I’m looking at is Razmig Hovaghimian. I noticed the template instructions say that the tag can be removed without warning if there's no discussion on the talk page. It also looks like several others have edited it since the last paid contributions in December 2014, and nothing problematic was identified. Can you take a look and see if the flag should be removed, per site policy? Thank you for your help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ecars98 (talkcontribs) 00:39, 12 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Request for consideration[edit]

Hi Timtempleton. My name is Lindsay and I work for ThoughtSpot. I made some non-controversial updates to the infobox and correcting tense/grammar, but have some suggestions that require independent vetting per WP:COI. To start, I've asked that the 2018 CEO appointment be added at: Talk:ThoughtSpot. It seems unlikely there are any editors closely watching the page that are likely to see my post and I was wondering if you wouldn't mind reviewing my requested edit and approving/rejecting it per the COI rules Linnoo614 (talk) 20:24, 31 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Linnoo614: No problem - the WSJ source matches. You'll have a better chance of getting help in the future if you use the edit request template, per Wikipedia:Simple conflict of interest edit request. That signals others. You might want to fill out some of the missing ref dates. There's a hidden maintenance error that only shows up when you preview the changes. I can't find it but I see some bare refs - sometimes adding dates fixes it. I also removed your CFO from the key people field of the infobox. I only like to include CEO, Chairman or President, unless the person is a co-founder as well, as your CTO is, or if they have their own article. Having too many names suggests that the editor is an insider, and might get the article flagged. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 21:00, 31 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks so much for your prompt and thorough responses! I appreciate that you are a volunteer donating your time to this. Next, I'd like to propose some content to beef up the Technology and Recognition sections, then I'll be out of your hair. Thanks again! 108.29.111.198 (talk) 02:12, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Please look up the meaning of the term app and stop revert war introducing wrong term. Loew Galitz (talk) 19:07, 1 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Loew Galitz: Please read the sentence following the section you keep reverting "Security vulnerabilities are identified and addressed during the development process, before the app is in use." That Is why I added the word app. Also, please take more care before editing. I had to fix your typo [[4]]. Also, you started an AfD without WP:BEFORE and now it still sits there despite your belated attempts to withdraw it. You are creating more work for others. Perhaps English is not your first language, but WP:COMPETENCEISREQUIRED. TimTempleton (talk) (cont)
App is a slang for "application software" . there is also "systems software", for which security issues are even more dramatic. MAybe English is not my fdirest language, but software is not you language either. YEs I did AfD with BEFORE. It took me nontrivial time to find good refs because the author convinced me that the company is not a fluke. I also found the article in hebrew wikipedia, and it took me some solid efforts because google is overwhelmed with PR hype about the startup. I took some serious efforts to rescue the article, and now you are pouring accusations onto me. This is not good, colleague. Loew Galitz (talk) 19:26, 1 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Loew Galitz: If your immediate default response is vulgarity and hostility, your participation here will not be welcome. Tread carefully and dial it down a bit. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 20:43, 1 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
My apologies. As you said I am not a native English speaker and I was under the impression that the s-word is not a vulgarity, hearing it everywhere on TV, movies and ytube. Anyway I recognize my mistake of not explaining myself in the article talk page in the first place. I accepted your opinion that the term "developer" may need disambiguation and fixed the article in a way I hope you will find acceptable. Apologies again. Short Descriptions[edit]

Hi. I stumbled across two short descriptions you added which were copies of the article titles; I've fixed them. Maybe you were just tired, but in case you didn't know: WP:Short description says "avoid duplicating information that is already in the title". (If an article's title says all that's necessary, the keyword none should be used to record that fact.) The guide also says it's best if the short desc is 40 characters or less (because of its use on small phone screens). Cheers -- R. S. Shaw (talk) 04:22, 12 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This has been done under section A2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a foreign language article that has essentially the same content as es:Insurtech, an article on another Wikimedia Foundation project. Please see Wikipedia:Translation to learn about requests for, and coordination of, translations from foreign-language Wikipedias into English.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. @Dr vulpes: Thanks for the heads up. Somebody hijacked my simple redirect. I restored it. Let me know if you have any problems with the redirect. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 01:00, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hey @Timtempleton, sorry I should have checked the history before nominating for deletion. Glad everything worked out! Dr vulpes (💬📝) 01:26, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Emplifi Page Review Request[edit]

The current [[Emplifi]] page is almost completely unsourced promotion and tags. I disclosed a COI and proposed [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:JordanJulian19/draft a replacement] that is just a few paragraphs long and summarizes all the biggest press articles about the company. I was hoping you might be willing to review the draft as an impartial editor with no affiliation to verify whether the overhaul would be an improvement for Wikipedia and its readers. Best regards. ~~~~ JordanJulian19 (talk) 11:59, 19 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@JordanJulian19: You actually want the wiki code showing, so people can click on the links. I reviewed your draft, made some structural revisions and some minor edits, and loaded it for you. I also uploaded the logo. I didn't see a source for the Czech Republic being their HQ. There was more Socialbaker history that you might want to include, but only if it's properly sourced and not promotional. You can put other edit requests on the talk page using the COI edit request template. See Wikipedia:Simple conflict of interest edit request.
