Thomas Anthony White (born March 2, 2003) is an American college baseball third baseman for the LSU Tigers. He previously played for the NC State Wolfpack.

Amateur career[edit]

White grew up in St. Pete Beach, Florida and initially attended Calvary Christian High School.[1] As a junior, he batted .444 with 18 RBIs and four home runs in 11 games before the season was cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic.[2] He transferred to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida prior to his senior year. White batted .378 and was named an All-American in his only season at IMG.[3]

North Carolina State University

White immediately garnered national attention at NC State University, after batting .588 with nine home runs in his first eight collegiate games.[4][5] He set records for the most home runs by a NC State player and the most by a freshman in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) since the introduction of the BBCOR standard for bats in 2011.[6] When he hit his 23rd home run on May 19, 2022, White broke the overall ACC freshman home run record set by Florida State's Chris Diaz in 1998.[7] On May 28, 2022, White hit his fourth home run in two games at the ACC Tournament, marking his 27th home run of the season, which broke a record that had stood for over 30 years. White became the only freshman to ever hit 27 home runs in college baseball, and was later named the ACC Freshman of the Year in 2022.[8][9][10] After his 2022 campaign, in which the Wolfpack failed to make the NCAA tournament despite a strong regular season, White entered the NCAA transfer portal, ultimately committing to Louisiana State University.[11][12]

Shortly after arriving at Louisiana State University, in September of 2022, White announced plans to donate a portion of his NIL earnings to Empower 225 - a non-profit organization in Baton Rouge providing children with resources and skills to be set up for success and a bright future. His goal was to raise awareness and support for at-risk youth in the local community. Empower 225 focuses their efforts on helping youth in the capital region who are at-risk of homelessness and dependency to reach their highest potential through educational support, life-skills training, career preparedness, housing and mentorship.[13]

In 2023, White helped lead the Tigers to the 2023 National Championship, batting .377 (103-for-273) with 24 doubles, 24 homers, 105 RBI and 64 runs scored.[14][15] He finished No. 1 in the nation in RBI (105), No. 3 in total bases (198) and No. 4 in RBI per game (1.59). In the the SEC, White finished No. 1 in RBI (105), No. 2 in total bases (198), No. 2 in hits (102), No. 2 in doubles (24), No. 4 in homers (24), No. 6 in batting average (.374) and No. 7 in slugging percentage (.725).[15]

Among many other achievements in 2023, White was a two-time SEC Player of the Week, a two-time National College Baseball Player of the Week, a consensus 1st Team All-American, a Golden Spikes Award Semi Finalist, a Dick Howser Award Semi Finalist, and a College World Series Champion. [15] [16] His two-run, walk-off home run in the bottom of the 11th inning of an elimination game against Wake Forest on June 22, 2023, sent LSU to the College World Series Championship Series against Florida. LSU would ultimately take two games of three against Florida, and White was voted to the College World Series All-Tournament Team, having batted .351 (11-for-32) in eight games with two doubles, two homers, eight RBI and five runs scored.[15]
