The proposed changes are to synchronize this module with the presentation of {{Article history}}. Per this discussion at the FAC talk page, there is consensus to use the former phrasing instead of failed. I'm also proposing to make the icon for former FACs consistent with former FLCs, which also helps distinguish them at a glance from former FAs. Let me know if you have any questions! I don't believe this should be accepted. From WP:FA:

the wiki software converts to a PNG of inferior quality

I also believe their mass edits should all be reverted. ZZZ'S 03:40, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It really does, the generated pngs have no aliasing for some reason. --PresN 03:43, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I see this issue has been discussed at T40010.

In a recent discussion in WikiProject Mathematics yet another rendering bug was encountered. Several users expressed the sentiment that SVG support in MediaWiki will never get fixed, and it is better to give up on them altogether and revert to PNGs. This is specially frustrating because the browsers can render the SVG correctly, but MediaWiki insists on passing it through librsvg and serving the resulting garbage instead.

Description of suggested change:

Could we please add this icon for User-Class pages to the icon codes table?

	user = { 		image = "Symbol user class.svg", 		tooltip = "User-Class article", 		link = false, 	},

Soulbust (talk) 14:34, 5 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

"User-Class article" does not make sense to me. User pages are not articles. Is there a discussion that led to this request? Please give an example of a couple of pages that this icon would be used on, and how it would be invoked. – Jonesey95 (talk) 16:28, 5 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Ahecht Uh wouldn't really know where other than this template talk to ask for a discussion on this. Doesn't seem all that controversial and akin to the previous Draft icon and Barnstars icon requests. At least I made this request with the precedent of those previous requests in mind. Soulbust (talk) 23:03, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Soulbust This discussion is fine, but there needs to be consensus established before you use the {{Edit template-protected}} template, and as Jonesey95 has lodged an objection, this isn't a non-controversial change so the conversation needs to run its course first. --Ahecht (TALK

OK, I see. That is a very broken naming system, but fixing it is not a topic for this page. The idea that Template talk:Analytic philosophy would be tagged with Category:Template-Class Philosophy articles instead of Category:Template-Class Philosophy pages is silly, but I see why it happens; nobody cares enough to fix it. I have implemented this change. Please ping me if it doesn't work. – Jonesey95 (talk) 00:31, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi yes, I thought the same thing actually when typing out my initial request. But I noticed how all the "-Class" categories followed that format using "articles". I agree, if it's a Template-Class or User-Class, it should probably be "pages" instead of "articles". Soulbust (talk) 11:21, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

For the user icon described by Soulbust above, please change it to link = true. File:Symbol user class.svg was published as {{CC BY-SA 3.0}}, and to comply with the license, the link should never be suppressed. hinnk (talk) 08:47, 8 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Can this be improved, such that:

  • Call: {{icon|Dialog-information.svg}}
  • Expected response:
  • Current response:

Is there any way the module could be adapted that if the icon specified not be in the list that it be looked up as a File: and then the same process be given to it. This would make adding icons inline in non-article space text much easier with the use of this template than having to manually add the markup [[File:Dialog-information.svg|14px|alt=|link=]. waddie96 ★ (talk) 21:11, 5 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

 Not done: please make your requested changes to the template's sandbox first; see WP:TESTCASES. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 12:45, 7 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

FGAN icon

[edit]

Someone watches this talk page, right? Can we change the alt text for the FGAN icon from "Failed Good Article Nominee" to "Former Good Article Nominee", for parity with Template:Article history and to make it sound a little less harsh? Cheers, MediaKyle (talk) 23:34, 27 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Change icon for modules

[edit]
Logo of the Lua programming language
Red circle with a less-than sign, forward slash, and greater-than sign

Currently, {{WikiProject banner shell}} displays a cartoon circular icon in the style of article class icons when it appears on a module's talk page (for an example, see Module talk:WikiProject banner); however, {{icon}} uses the Lua logo. Given that File:Lua-Logo.svg is fairly difficult to identify at small sizes ( is the standard size of {{icon}}), should we switch to File:Symbol code red.svg?

511 module = { 512 image = "Lua-logo-nolabel.svg", 513 tooltip = "Module", 514 link = false, 515 },
+
511 module = { 512 image = "Symbol code red.svg", 513 tooltip = "Module", 514 link = false, 515 },
