Manus (hand in Latin) is an autonomous artificial intelligence agent developed by startup company Monica, based in Singapore. The agent is designed to independently carry out complex online tasks without direct/continuous human guidance.
History
[edit]Manus was founded to create artificial intelligence agents capable of operating independently, based on large language models (LLM). The official launch of Manus on March 6, 2025, drew international attention. Experts and media described Manus as a major advance because it could autonomously handle complex tasks, including writing and deploying code, without direct human intervention.[2]
Performance
[edit]Manus is a completely autonomous AI agent that is able to perform a range of tasks from website building to stock analysis, travel booking, and scheduling. In practice, Manus illustrates its usefulness in making lists, property searching, and suggesting candidates, even outperforming its rivals like ChatGPT DeepResearch in certain tasks. However, it does need user input for paywall and captcha tasks, and the time taken to complete tasks varies from 30 minutes to more than an hour. Maybe one of its greatest strengths is the way it is so open, with users able to see its processes in a side panel, making it possible for those who are not coding geniuses. Manus also operates asynchronously in the cloud, allowing tasks to be run without the need for constant checking. With all these strengths, the platform is also beset by system stability, crashing and overloading the server at peak usage, leading to failure of tasks and higher than average failure rate compared to some of its rivals. Manus is not available as fewer than 1% of waitlist users get invitation codes, and its pricing model of $2 per task is low but tainted by concerns of reliability. While some enjoy its novelty factor, Manus has also been faulted as a rebranding of already existing technologies and also by its marketing strategy, as constant server issues and limited access raise serious doubts among prospective clients.[3]
