The article Gilbert Rozon has been proposed for deletion because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners or ask at Wikipedia:Help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. "USA-centric" tag on town meeting page[edit]

I removed the "needs global perspective" tag from the Town meeting page, since the article says the term is used primarily in the United States. If that's not the case, the article should say where else it's used; otherwise, the tag seemed to me like having a "needs global perspective" tag on an article about American football. - DavidWBrooks (talk) 18:09, 18 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

November 2011[edit]

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you recently tried to give National Press Building a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut and paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is needed for attribution and various other purposes. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Thank you. A tag has been placed on Michael Snyder requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. Family members of Prime Ministers[edit]

I've just recently noticed that you spent some time last fall trying to expand Wikipedia's coverage of Stephen Harper's family, so I wanted to ask that you take some time to familiarize yourself with Wikipedia's principle that notability is not inherited.

Specifically, a father, mother, sibling or child of a Prime Minister of Canada is not automatically entitled to a Wikipedia article if the only claim of notability you can make is the family relationship to a Prime Minister. Because being the spouse of the Prime Minister is a notable public role in its own right, the wives are different — but in general, any other family member of a PM is allowed to have an article only if they've established their own notability independently of the family relationship alone. (Ben Mulroney and Catherine Clark and Justin Trudeau and Alexandre Trudeau and Geoffrey Pearson, for example, have all done things that would have gotten them in here regardless of who their fathers were; Ben's and Geoffrey's other siblings, conversely, have not.) And, in turn, a person's name is not added to {{Stephen Harper}} unless they actually have a separate article, which actually makes a valid and properly sourced claim of genuine notability, to link to.

Admittedly, on the surface it might look to you like there's a double standard for Canada vis-à-vis the United States — you do seem inordinately fond of making that claim whether there's an actual basis for it or not — but there really isn't, because a family member of a US president still has to meet a notability guideline in their own right. The United States has a much more invasive media culture that actively digs into these people in greater depth and intrusiveness than is true almost anywhere else in the world, so it ends up being a little bit easier than usual for those family members to actually garner enough media coverage to get past a notability guideline, but they still have to to get past a notability guideline on their own and still do not automatically get their own article just because they exist.

The test you need to apply is whether the person you want to write about has garnered a reasonable volume of media coverage that is specifically about them, which demonstrates their own independent notability. In other words, if there are media sources out there in which Joseph or Margaret or Rachel Harper is the primary subject, then they might potentially qualify for their own articles — but if their names merely get mentioned in media sources whose primary subject is Stephen, then their names may be mentioned in Stephen's article but they do not qualify for their own. Bearcat (talk) 18:07, 18 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know why we should let the media decide the notability of a person but if that's Wikipedia policy then I will follow it otherwise we aer just allowing Wikipedia to become even more American-biased. NorthernThunder (talk) 14:25, 20 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I got it. Diplomats are not notable. NorthernThunder (talk) 16:56, 15 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Diplomats are not automatically notable just for being diplomats — they are notable if reliable sources can be added to provide depth and context about their diplomatic careers, and are not notable if all you can add is a stub that just says "Barbara Richardson is a diplomat" and doesn't cite any sources to verify the fact or demonstrate why anyone should care.
Her role is significant enough that reliable sources probably can be added to make her notability more apparent — but notability is a question of the sourcing that can or cannot be provided about the person, and not something that all diplomats automatically get just for being diplomats. Is there a reason you seem to so persistently have trouble understanding the distinction between those two things? Bearcat (talk) 23:42, 29 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Problem with loading main page[edit]

The main page loads with the links to the different language portals all appearing at the left margin. NorthernThunder (talk) 22:01, 8 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe I misunderstand you, but that sounds like the way it's supposed to be. Why is that a problem? Huon (talk) 22:14, 8 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Assuming you did understand me, aesthetically, it just looks wrong because it leaves a big white space in the middle. NorthernThunder (talk) 22:54, 8 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
To me the main page looks roughly like this: File:Wikipedia Main Page.png. The interwiki links to versions in other languages are at the left. I don't see any white space in the middle. Huon (talk) 23:26, 8 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know how to upload a screenshot of my desktop so I'll try to explain it again. The page at http://www.wikipedia.org/ has links to the different languages of Wikipedia. They are supposed to surround a Wikiglobe but they do not here. The Wikiglobe is at the top left and each language wiki hypertext link is directly below them in descending order. To the right is the rest of the page which is blank. NorthernThunder (talk) 23:41, 8 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
OK, sorry, that was indeed a misunderstanding; we were talking about differeng "main pages". There was indeed a problem with the page you pointed to, but it seems to be resolved now. No idea what the problem was, and it would probably something outside the control of the English Wikipedia - nothing editors here could have helped with. Huon (talk) 00:46, 9 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The article Truong Hoa Binh has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this newly created biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article. The nominator also raised the following concern:

All biographies of living people created after March 18, 2010, must have references.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. A tag has been placed on Jay_Switzer, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising that only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an acceptable page. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item G11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this page is not blatant advertising, . Clicking that button will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. You are welcome to edit the page to fix this problem, but please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. As well as removing promotional phrasing, it helps to add factual encyclopaedic information to the page, and add citations from independent reliable sources to ensure that the page will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this.

Mayor[edit]

Just a reminder that the person who wins a mayoral election does not instantly become the incumbent mayor of a town or city the moment they've been declared the winner on election night — there's a transition period first, during which the outgoing mayor is still the incumbent, and the incoming one is only a mayor-elect. Ontario's new mayors are not actually taking office until December 1 — so Tony Antoniazzi can be added to the infobox in a supplementary field as mayor-elect, but for the duration of October and November Bill Enouy is still the actual mayor and cannot be removed from the infobox yet. File:GeorgeHaroldBaker.jpg needs authorship information[edit]

Dear uploader:

The media file you uploaded as File:GeorgeHaroldBaker.jpg appears to be missing information as to one (or more) of the following :

  1. The author or creators of the work, (including information as to the author's lifespan).
  2. Where and how this particular version was obtained.
  3. When the work was created,

If you did provide such information, it is currently confusing for others trying to make use of the image.

It would be appreciated if you would consider updating the file description page, to make the authorship of the media clearer.

Although some images may not need author information in obvious cases, (such where an applicable source is provided), authorship information aids users of the image, and helps ensure that appropriate credit is given (a requirement of some licenses).

  • If you created this media yourself, please consider explicitly including your user name, for which: {{subst:usernameexpand|NorthernThunder}} will produce an appropriate expansion,
    or use the {{own}} template.

Please also add authorship and sourcing to other files you created or uplopaded. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions please see Help:File page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 10:24, 26 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The article Bilawal House I has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

the article is unfeferenced and the topic is non notable, maybe contain lots of wrong information also it have been written in very poor style

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
